I've seen the threads here. However, what's the better choice for big, but tight bass. Not boomy and muddy. The Mesa Vertical 2x12, PRS big mouth, or an Avatar. I like the Mesa with the casters and it was specifically designed as a vertical. Should I just get a 4x12 and deal with the weight/transport issues?

I've got a horizontal Mesa Recto 2x12 and it's got pretty tight bass response, but isn't quite as big and thick sounding as my Traditional/Stiletto 4x12, which can actually be an advantage depending on band/room/mix settings. Haven't tried the PRS or Avatar, though.

Depending on how big of a person you are and what 4x12 you're getting they can be quite ridiculous to move, if not impossible for some people alone. The 212 is definitely going to be easy to move, although a lot of the commercial cabs you listed are still very heavy. I prefer to have a 4x12, but when it's just jamming a smaller cab makes life a lot easier. A vertical 2x12 will have a similar spread as a 4x12. If you're mixing speakers the best way to go is a 4x12 in an X pattern as you'll get a great mix from either side of the cab

I have had an avatar 4x12, 5150 4x12, and numerous other 4x12s. I settled with a 2x12 Avatar cab and I love it! I still have a tight sound although I will say a 4x12 does sound larger.

Look into a Vader 2X12, I've owned two in the past and they are about as tight and clear as you can get.

i had a mesa recto 2x12, sounded pretty thin vs the Fryette Fatbottom I have now. Not necessarily suggesting the latter, but the recto ain't that great.

I actually had a Vader 2x12 back in 08. Loved it. Wish he wouldn't have stopped making them.

I definitely love my mesa 212 but personally I think the orange ppc212 is my favorite commercially available 212, but it's not exactly small and light

I went from a splawn 4x12 to a mesa recto 2x12 and felt the 2x12 was missing some presence in the band mix - added back a 1x12 and it's back - but still easier transport with the 1x12 and 2x12.

I want big, tight, clear bass. I palm mute a lot. Am I asking too much from a 2x12?

I think the G-flex is plenty tight. Cuts through the mix very well also. Sounds great with all my amps....The porting make a nice wall of bass. I thought it sounded better than the Orange and Mesa 212s I tried it up against. GC always has some used ones around for $250-300.
