"Bach on the Lute", Nigel North (4-cd set that contains all the sonatas and partitas for violin & all the cello suites, re-keyed and cranked out on a fretted thingamabob - am I over the limit?:realmad:)

"Coast to Coast", Steve Morse Band

"Between Nothingness and Eternity", Mahavishnu Orchestra

Since I'm already over anyway, I'm also bringing a CD-ROM called:
"How to Build a Fucking Boat out of Fucking Coconuts and Get Off a Fucking Desert Island".

Even better yet, I'm just gonna stay here instead....

Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile

This album changed the way I listened to and viewed music. Period.

Wynton Marsalis Septet - Live at the Village Vanguard

I love jazz... I love Wynton... this 7 disc set almost acts like a historical timeline of jazz; it includes standards, originals and traditional compositions. The collection covers 20s era band and East coast blues, through to swing and big band, cool, bop/hard-pop, all the way up to modern post-bop and more contemporary styles bordering on chamber music. This set was the best $30 I ever spent.

Converge - Jane Doe

This album possesses the most abrasive soundscapes I've ever heard. It uses chaos and noise like paint brushes and creates violent, breathing, seething and writhing landscapes. On this album Jacob changes his vocal style over to his current paint peeling/dying inside variety, Kurt takes on a more angular approach to guitar while still adding some technical parts and Ben brings power, stability and franticness on the kit. Nates back-up vocals are killer and they bring him up in the mix a fair bit more, with a growling, clean fuzzed bass tone. This album is a noise masterpiece and feels like sadness ripping itself from inside you.

Type O Negative - October Rust
Fear Factory - Demanufacture
Cradle of Filth - Cruelty and the Beast

Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia/In Sorte Diaboli would have to be RIGHT up there too vying for that #3 spot.

When I was very young I was into 80s hair metal, but then from about 1990-1995 I was into hardcore gangster rap like NWA and Onyx. Then I got the 'Mortal Kombat' soundtrack in 1995, which featured Fear Factory, Type O Negative, Sepultura, KMFDM, and others. That completely changed my life. I enabled me to discover more and more bands from different genres of metal and underground forms of music which helped shape who I am today.

Thank God for that movie :metal:

Also, I really really loved Korn's first album when I was in High School. They were sort of a gateway drug for me. From them and the subsequent interest in 7-strings, I discovered Morbid Angel and other extreme bands who tuned down to B (or lower), such as Nile, Cannibal Corpse, etc. Never looked back. I don't like Korn anymore but I still have a soft spot for their 1st album.

Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile

I agree that is an absolutely incredible album. I haven't been into what Trent has done since, but that will always rank amongst my top 25-50 albums of all time.

Magnitude Nine - Reality In Focus

Reality In Focus would always be on my list, but my "favorites" change almost daily. : p
