Cynic - Traced in Air Incubus - A Crow Left of the Murder Periphery - WTF WHENS IT COMIN OUT?! (Or just a CD full of Bulb's soundclick stuff. Either way.)
This thread is just unfair. 3 is too hard. I'd be hard pressed to realistically pick 10.
Morte Macabre - Symphonic Holocaust The Mercury Program - A Data Learn The Language Van Halen - 1984
Symphonic Holocaust basically encapsulates everything I love about music. Just remembering the lead mellotron line to the title track in my head right now actually got me close to tearing up, haha. Couldn't possibly say what it is that works so perfectly, but fuck it, it sounds amazing.
A Data Learn The Language is one of those rare, rare albums that has so far proven impossible to overplay. I've listened to it probably about 4 times a week on average for the past couple of years, know it back-to-front and inside-out but am I bored yet? Hell no. Some of the best textures, layering and quasi-climaxes I've ever heard, and anyone who thinks vibraphone isn't the sexiest-sounding instrument around is clearly slightly sick and to be pitied immensely.
Had to think quite hard about not including anything heavier, but no metal album has ever got my head and fist pumping to the same extent that 1984 does, so it seemed the only logical option. One album that contains songs as good as "Hot For Teacher", "Panama", "Drop Dead Legs", "Top Jimmy" and, of course, "Jump"? Fucking count me in!
