i was digging around in my harddrive and found a short 45 second rough, one-take clip of me screaming on Light by periphery ...

and i shit bricks, i sound like garbage these days compared to this ... a few months of trying to sound like Iowa has RUINED my scream. fuck. this is a pretty raw take as well, ignore the nasally bits

hahaa you can hear the flesh of my vocal chords flapping around , brutal.

if i remember correctly, i sounded like crap everyday-talking voice at this time period. was super deep and gravelly cause i had to clear my throat every 5 seconds .. which i do at the start of the clip, lol. I remember that sucked.

what say you, sevenstring

You, sir, are an amazing screamer! I wish you could scream like that without hurting your voice though..don't hurt yourself.

It's actually kind of the opposite, the screaming didn't ruin my voice nearly as much as clearing my throat. But i had to do that to scream

heres how it went down ... you know when you wake up in the morning sometimes and your voice is hella deep and you think 'man i sound like barry white' and you sing to yourself in your room LOOOOVIN YOuUUU BAAAABY in ... uhh nevermind , moving on..

well i found i could kinda maintain that deepness throughout the day by clearing my throat a certain way, cause once i decided to do some screaming right after i woke up and that's when i got the ultra-deep gutteral fry sound that you can hear a little of on the clip, and i thought ... holy shit. the combination of the two was pretty hard on my voice.

maybe ill dig around for my mic and record something to see what i can do these days

good stuff man, hope you haven't destroyed your voice permanently though. I've taken a break from growling and am getting vocal lessons to make sure I don't do myself real damage when I (hopefully) end up doing tours etc...

Techniques ? It's all fry. Not the 'fry' you see kids on youtube doing, i don't know wtf that is. or maybe that's fry, i don't know :\ i never used a fing pencil to learn or anything lol.

but the technique is the same for the whole range, the high scream down to the low. same technique, It did take awhile for me to be able to get the air 'under' my voicebox and go real low. i know that makes zero sense..

I have definitely damaged my voice permanently, but it's not as bad as it sounds. I have not lost any range (normal singing) but I've developed some callouses on my vocal chords, which becomes apparent when i raise my voice, you can hear a bit of a 'break' in my voice. Id say a good percentage of damage came from imitating Corey Taylor on Vol 3, where he is just strait up yelling. That did most of the damage, and that was almost 2 years ago when i started that shit
