Holy crap! they did it! Why would they do this 25 years after the fact? How could there possibly be market for this still? lol. . . Dang it. Now I'm looking into this stuff again. lol.Link please...
The GK5-G6 and GK5-G7 are new products with a new connector, the Serial interface. This uses a 1/4" jack, but it's a digital signal. The old 13-pin format carried individual analog signals for each string and did A/D conversion on the device (ex SY-1000, VG-99). Now they're switching to doing A/D conversion at the guitar, which is a good thing. This reduces noise and the connector itself is more durable.Ive in the last week seen that Boss now makes a 7 string midi pickup- Anyone know anything about it at all?
Do they have this in top mount option?...Holy crap! they did it! Why would they do this 25 years after the fact? How could there possibly be market for this still? lol. . . Dang it. Now I'm looking into this stuff again. lol.

You mean the pickup or the preamp thing?Do they have this in top mount option?...
I don't know if they do or not. YOu'd have to ask Boss. I remember back with the original gk they didn't really advertise the internal (top mount) kit. The pickup is the same thing basically with the wire coming out the bottom so it's a clean internal install if I remember right.Do they have this in top mount option?...
It does not appear so. It looks like it has to be installed internally. I'm already planning my next guitar purchase to install one.Do they have this in top mount option?...
Kind of the same in this side of the globe. It does not appear so. It looks like it has to be installed internally. I'm already planning my next guitar purchase to install one.
I meant the preamp/box thing... The pickup itself is straight forward...You mean the pickup or the preamp thing?

Please, do keep us updated on the 7 string MIDI guitar, there aren't videos on those anywhere...Quick update for those interested:
I've just put the order for the GK5-KIT-G7 along with the GKC-DA. This will go in the Charbonneau 7 strings Starcrusher that I have on order, ETA around March 2025.
The GKC-DA was in stock at the shop I placed my order in but the GK5-G7 is still in preorder and they expect it somewhere in August. Just in case anyone was interested in purchasing one.
As for the price tag, I would highly recommend NOT to go that route ahaha. Only reason I did is because I already own a GR-55 and two 6 strings guitars that can operate it, but my WR7 cannot so I can't use it with my actual band. Even for a Death Metal band, the GR-55 capabilities is so crazy, I couldn't pass on this occasion.
That MIDI system only supports 6 strings guitars, but as for the piezo sounds, you can go with as many strings as you like![]()
ghost Pickups 7 String Strat & Tele 2 7/16" spacing (PN-8000-07)
The PN-8000-07 is a set of seven ghost-loaded saddles for a Strat or Tele style guitar with a 2 7/16" string spacing and with a center intonation screw. They are designed to work with any of our ghost preamp kits. Works with any of our ghost preamp kits along with other companies' preamps.graphtech.com
If I remember correctly, something like this would probably be your best bet. 'Course, it also involves another $400 part and what looks to be some serious permanent modifications to the guitar, but everything I've seen about it looks pretty cool.
From what I rememebr I think you can link multiple hexaphonics to get more strings. That MIDI system only supports 6 strings guitars, but as for the piezo sounds, you can go with as many strings as you like

Yep, gotta have two of everything. Think they would just build support in for 16 since that's midi. Then people could easly midi chapman sticks and stuff. It's one of those things. They need to make the tech work really well, put it in a guitar and have a demo that really peaks interest. It's just expensive and hassel. I'd love to see it but I won't touch this tech again until I see it. - I also think that the hexpander ideas are cool but midi just might not need this pickup once things like Jam Origin and other polyphonic stuff gets better. It can get better probably once AI or quantum stuff comes around, but for the time being the way to go with this stuff is with piezo or laser elements or whatever those light beam ones were. - It wil be a cool day. - Non midi poly pedals like the EHX C9 B9, etc are really nice too and don't have any glitch noises. I'd like to see EHX expand it to include more instruments or a version that triggers samples etc. At least someone these companies are still trying and once day it will be incredible. Maybe it already is and is just expensive. I know I've seen people with piezo midi use it very well so in reality you just gotta do it right with the gear and play right too.My understanding is that these were all made compatible to Roland's gear and since Roland didn't support more than 6 string instruments, in order to get 7, 8 or more strings with MIDI, one would have to double the outboard gear. The Graphtech's Hexaphonic output IS the 1 pin cable that goes into the Roland, Axon and Yamaha (?) gear. All of these are parallel to Roland 13 pint gear.
From Graphtech's web site https://graphtech.com/pages/faq-ghost-hexpander:
Can the Hexpander be installed in a guitar with more than six strings?
Currently, the Hexpander and all MIDI converters are limited to six strings. There are two popular workarounds for more than six strings:
1) have two of everything: two Hexpanders, two MIDI controllers, two cords coming from your guitar, and split the systems. Each system can have a maximum of six strings.
2) install the Hexpander and the Acousti-phonic and have six strings on MIDI, and the others on piezo-only. Depending on the music you\'re playing, it may work to have the bass strings as straight acoustic, and the rest as MIDI.
... so, no, the Graphtech gear only supports 6 stringers... unless they update their game to match the new Roland stuff, that would be cool...
