In the market for a new 7, need some suggestions on what to get. RULES: No floyd rose, no schecter, and I would like to not have to upgrade pickups.

Do you have any other factors that would narrow-down your search?
e.g. pickups (active/passive), scale length, wood choice, body shape

Ibanez RGDIX7MPB RGD Iron Label

I played this at Guitar Center Hollywood and it was a beast! I didn't want to put it down. It would go very nicely next to my EBMM JP7 for some alternate tunings.

^I agree, Schecters have a lot of options with these specs.

The pickups on the RGD2127FX aren't amazing but they're definitely useable till you could muster up some ched for an upgrade.

Does anyone have any luck tuning to drop g# on a 25.5 inch scale? I know it's definitely doable, but I like to have the strings in the higher register a little thinner.

Why are you discounting Schecter may i ask? I have a mark I and markII KM7 and both are great guitars. If you worried about the huge neck thing that does not really apply to Schecter past 2015. I have Donald Trump hands and get along with them just fine!

Ibby prestige RGDs are killer guitars, haven't tried the new Iron Label one yet though but i expect good things.

Yes, i did on an Ibanez Premium with 10-66 strings. It played and sounded awesome.

G# is possible on 25.5" with 66 or 68 gauge string. I wouldn't go lower than G though...

Base model Kiesel AM7 or DCM7 multiscales fit in that price range easily, probably have enough to get one of the nicer solid or transparent colors too.

I would love to go for an Ibanez prestige seven, but I don't know how the PAF 7 pups would hold up until I could get the cash for some other dimarzios or maybe something from bare knuckle.

you can buy 2-3 agiles for that budget. Love my Septor pro.

I bought an Agile before getting into my first 2 Prestige Ibanez guitars, and as much as I like Agile and Rondo, I don't think they're close at all. Definitely not 97% there. My Interceptor is just so dull, acoustically and plugged in, compared to the attack and punch my RGA121s have. Fretwork and fit and finish is not even comparable. My interceptor's floyd route is definitely not centered! They definitely offer great value for money, but man if your budget is $1500 then buy something that ....ing rips right away.

I'd take one MIJ Ibanez over multiple cheap guitars. I don't see the point in crossing my fingers for that one MIK gem when I know a Fugijen built instrument is gonna be great right off the bat.

Pick the Prestige Ibby 7 you like most and buy it used off eBay or Reverb. Put the money you saved into new pups!
