You can use EMG HZ 40, it's passive.

I want to see more progress on it.

The template of the head now has tuning machines; and I have to say.. It looks BADASS. The belly cut and arm contour are also done.

Looks cool, I'm following this with great interest as I'm just designing my own DIY 8 string at the moment.

How did you carve the belly cut?

I used a big belt sander to do the belly cut. (not a hand held).

thanks for the interest!

Ah cool, I don't have access to a workshop so mine's gonna be done with handtools and a workbench in the garden :D

ah, well on project guitar one guy does the belly cut and arm contour with a spokeshave.. You could try that if that's all you've got access to. When you start building; post pics in a new thread! Good luck :)

Josh.

It’s been a while, but here is some more progress. Got the neck blank cut out and the scarf is gluing overnight.

Here is a shot to show off the nice bubinga neck.

The neck blank isn't at real size. It's only that big to fit the whole headstock on there.

Here we go!

Since this, the neck wood has been trimmed flush to the fretboard.

not totally digging the unnessecarily huge bridge pickup,,. but out of curiosity-- will you throw some extra frets onto there since you are only using one PU?

nah, I'm gonna cut off the rest of that fretboard, it's not supported by any wood.
