I am always leery when I see the "Made myself a guitar" thing, but I must say you have a great piece of work there. Nice attention to details and a really nice finish. Purpleheart is not all that common any more and I like how you used it.
What is going on where the neck meets the body...just between the neck pickup and the fretboard? Is it just that the wood of the neck has been left to pop up over where it meets the body?

Great work. How does it play and sound?

Holy shit that's a beautiful guitar. At a 29" scale, are the higher strings really shrill?

The the bit on the top of the guitar between the end of the neck and the pickup is a bit of an extension of the neck so the neck joint was very small and didn't get in the way being an 8 string.

It is somewhat to show off the neck woods on the front of the guitar but just thought it would make the neck joint smaller. I will not be doing this neck joint again.

The neck is 100% raw wood sanded to a 2500 grit. all the cavities are unfinished as well and only a thin nitro coat on the body. This all allows the guitar to age nicely and most importantly there is not a heavy clear coat to choke the guitar. Of any guitar I've ever played this one has a crazy piano like sustain. At first it was really odd to play a note and to feel the entire guitar sing the note.

Purple heart is a great wood I plan on using it in future builds as well as wenge the long scale really does well with a quarter sawn wenge neck. the maple was used as a clear dividing line between the wenge and purple heart.

The high strings are not shrill at all. I use 9-74 the low strings are tight enough and the high strings are the right tension the bends are quite easy. for a short time i used 8's but the strings were a bit too floppy.

The 8 I'm working on now will have a 28'' scale so it will be a bit shorter.

I will not be using Emg pups in the future...the neck is a EMGX. All passives from here on out!
