My DC800s are as good as if not better than the 2228 I had. Plus you have the ability to customize. DC800 is my vote.
The new Schecter 8s look pretty promising as well.

I'll jump on the carvin wagon, to me, it feels a lot better than my rg2228.

Also, since you're in ontario, you might want to check out guerilla guitars. Have only heard good things in the threads I've seen them in on here, and you end up saving a bit on shipping and our weak exchange rate by staying local

I have to agree on the RG2228 as well. There are still a couple of places that still carry new ones for about 1200 -1300 new clearance.

Before father's day I was looking into an Ibanez SIR28FD 8 string, looked like a great deal with the DiMarzio pickups and the like. However you just missed an awesome opportunity to get stuff at massive discount, by calling musician's friend you got a 15% off coupon for anything over $199, and they were running a 15% off coupon for gift cards. I bought a gift card for $1279 (15% of $1499) for $1090 (15% of 1279) and got an Ibanez M80M.

I tried to get a 15% discount once for stuff I ordered for x-mas and it was excluded despite what their site listed when I checked out and said in their long list of exclusions, not to mention tax [I live in Washington] ate up half of it anyways. Screw MF.

Not 30%. 1 - 0.85^2 = 27.75% discount.

I mean, we were talking about a guitar used by a math metal band. :shred:

For those not following: You take 15% off of the full price and then another 15% off of the remaining 85%, NOT 30% off of the full 100%. To elaborate, to calculate a series of discounts [15%, 15%], you take the reverse [.85, .85] and times it = 72.25% [the amount of the original 100% you'd pay], and to determine the discount percentage, you'd take 100% and minus 72.25%, which is 27.75% like Awesoham stated.

And yes, I passed with an A in my business math class.:shred:

Dude, I believe there is an RGA8 up on the Ottawa kijiji. It's $500, and you could probably talk the guy down (no, it's not me selling it). Take the rest of the cash and do whatever upgrades you want. Just my two cents.

get a dc800. or a used 2228. but also check into some of the more recent 2014 8 strings offered by schecter, ibanez, and esp/ltd. there are a few more sexy ibanez 8 string prestige's and iron label's. also the new schecter banshees are very nice and the price on those is definitely low for that quality of guitar. also esp/ltd came out with an 8 string horizon.
