So I got around to the final one in my V trilogy build 7,8,9.
This is the 8 string.

This is a cut from a huge Sapele board I picked up cheap £35 for a 14 foot x 20" x 2.5"

I got a stunning piece of Spallted Beech off ebay but it wasn't that thick but I managed to rip it and book match it for the top.

I had to rip the Sapele in 2 halves , it wouldn't go through the thicknesser .
I dont like straight grain so this is up my street.:)
Glued up and ready for business.

All the spare blanks on my stash are too narrow, sooooo...

I split this one and added a Purpleheart center which will also give strength.

My old buddy came to have a few words.

I found some soft spots in the spalt so I gave it some CA , I'll probably do the whole top.

Wow, that's looking fantastic! Nice job getting the ebony headstock cap to tie into the maple top on the body. :agreed:

No radius on the fretboard? It looks from one of those closeup shots that the board could have perhaps used a bit more sanding before fretting it... it seems there may be some little nicks and pockmarks in the maple that might not look or feel great when you're done.

But overall, i'd say that's coming along really nicely!

You wont see those tiny nicks when I'm done, its just the way I work ;) The head cap is a weird piece of Japanese laminate I used to match the Beech Spalt cos I had no more Beech Spalt left , it looks uncannily like the Beech when dyed.
No radius on this , I was surprised how much I liked the flat radius on the 9 string.
