Okay!

Well it was all cold and wet on Saturday and I didn't want to leave my place and I just bought a new microphone, so I recorded a cover of Meshuggah's Rational Gaze to test out my stuff.

This is my third recording with my current setup, and I am still a complete noob at all this crap. I'm just working with tips I read online and muddling through it all.

Please critique this and tell me what I can do to improve.

Be warned, You get to hear my awful vocals because all the stuff on Nothing can be kind of boring without words. I have no clue how to yell like Jens, or anyone else for that matter. I'm a decent singer, but I don't know how to growl at all. So if you can't stand the vocals please ignore them. Be gentle this is the first time I've posted a recording.

I'd add a little more midrange (perhaps around 1.5khz) but otherwise it sounds fine.

My least favorite part of meshuggah was always the vocals. I like these style vocals more. Sounds good dude. \m/

sounds like you´re hitting the 12th fret instead of the 13th fret... though the timing is correct... and on the lead guitars in the start, add some delay if you can, and bend more, like... slooowly :)

if you had layered the vocals, and when you sang it, used some more pressure from the belly, to really get that looow growly tone, like on Shed... then that would be cooler IMO, try it! :p

edit: just checked it myself, and it seems like you´re hitting the 13th fret, indeed, but... it doesen´t sound like it? :p

Thanks for the responses!

:hbang:
Is that the Roadking/Orange rig? Sounds pretty good!

Yes, that's the Roadking and Orange. I have a TS7oVChaos and a Decimator in front and it's mic'd with an Audix i5. Bass is direct from my bass amp.

It's 13. If you've got really good ears, you might notice that it's quite a bit flat. My 8 string was sitting about halfway in between F and E without much room on the fine tuners. I was too lazy to unlock the nut and fix it, so I just tuned it to itself, and the bass to match. So everything is like .7 steps below standard.

On the single note leads, I couldn't get it to sound right doing the random bends that they do, so I just did it straight. There's delay on them but I guess it wasn't enough.
