Being a huge cannibal corpse fan I'm gonna be using Ab and Bb tuning quite a bit, just wondered what gauges you'd recommend for Ab tuning, I'm currently looking at D'addario 14-68's.....this is on a 6 string btw :hbang:

68 on a 25.5" might be a bit loose; I'm strung up 12-68 on my baritone 7 (12, 16, 18, 32, 42, 54, 68) and that feels just about right (save for the 18). I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to heavy gauges 'cause the tension fatigues my hands really quickly, but 12-68 I can play all day long

Listen to this man, he tunes to G#/Ab. I've tried F# on a 27" scale myself, and found a 70 to be about right for the F#. I also played Mart's predecessor's guitar (25.5" with a 68 for the G#) and found that to work quite nicely. So, depending on your preference for heavy or light strings, a 68 to 70 should be fine.

Well basically I just got myself a RR24, and being a cannibal corpse fan I wanna play along to some of their songs n stuff, also if Pat O'Brien don't need the higher string for his stuff then I don't really need one either, mainly use my sevens for more chord/prog based things, and the 6 for more death metal stuff :yesway:

[action=ukfswmart]wonders why O'Brien has the world's largest collection of BCR 7-string Vs if he doesn't need the high Eb...[/action]

That being true he never uses them, he said that the necks feel like baseball bats and that he dislikes the tone of 707's so thats why he sticks to his sixes, don't think he really needs sevens anyway the musics insanely complex as it is :shred:

I tune to drop Ab with a .059" for the Ab. It's a little loose on a 25.5" scale, but it works. Maybe something between a .065" and a .070" would work better for most people.

Lol I use a 60" for B, unfourtunately d'addarrio don't do a 14-66 although the difference a 66 and 68 to most would be tiny, I can always feel the difference, once I get my vetta II those babies should sing :shred:
