The "relic" finish just does not work on these weirdo space-cyber-futuro guitars.

That's exactly why they work for me. Few people are gonna play ultra modern guitars till they 'relic' and few modern guitars come with finishes that relic nicely. So I always think it's cool to imagine an 8 string if it was made 40 years ago and gigged to hell.

Exactly! Honestly much more interesting to me than a relic on a brand new strat or tele.
