About to record some vox!

i have two condenser mics set up with an M-audio Fast Track hooked up to my macbook which is running (don't laugh at me....) garageband..... any advice before my vocalist starts yelling into this?

EDIT: too late, already recorded. I'll put up the mix sometime tomorrow.

I am at my wit's end with this mix..... it sounds bad to me, and it's one of those things where i just want to do the whole thing over. someone tell me what i'm doing wrong.
