Man I get so tired of socialism being thrown around like it's some dirty word. We live in the third largest country by population on the planet. Some systems have to be socialized so people can eat, pay rent, put gas in their cars, see doctors etc. These aren't new issues. I'm pretty sure we're not at risk of Russian Collectivism or anything like that. The boogeyman isn't real.

You know what other welfare system could use a closer look and some widespread reform? The military welfare system. Privatization the last 30 years has done that system a whole lot of good, right?

Looks like he served as a command sergeant major, but retired prior to completing the requirement to retire with the rank, so, depending on the specific wording of a claim, this may be a stretch.

But he had put in for retirement two months before any notification of his unit’s deployment, so any deployment dodging claims are bullshit. For actual draft/deployment dodging, see Donald Trump’s claims of bone spurs. Do you have a word for this?

Die by what? You know the "woke mind virus" isn't a real virus, right? That it's a metaphor? Like, you can't "get a case of the socialism" and die. You're not going to be on your deathbed thinking "if I only I hadn't cared so much about my fellow man" before succumbing to a severe student loan forgiveness. You're not going to get a phone call from the authorities informing you that one of your loved ones had their head explode because it couldn't contain all the subsidized education. Or maybe folks will be at higher risk of house fires when they can afford houses. Or maybe we'll be health-care'd to death. I bet that's it. We'll have too much access to health care, and die of option paralysis.

You know what absolutely could kill people though? Maybe something like re-classifying anyone who isn't strait / cis as a sex offender (along with librarians!), then changing the penalty for sex crimes to death. (Hint: project 2025 has both of these things in it.)

The NHS has been demolished in the last 14 years, and our current government has shown no signs of reversing that. Many NHS services just stopped seeing patients as policy.

Demolished is a tad dramatic, but I don't disagree: the NHS was suffering before covid and afterwards was subjected to further austerity.

But I still got extensively tested and cleared of having cancer within three months of symptoms, and entirely for free. And had I'd got bad news, I'd be on chemo and prioritised for surgical intervention.

For free.

Not bad for a system that's been "demolished".

I don't think he did a cool thing. I think it's one thing to dodge a draft because you're adamantly against war, and entirely different to dodge it when you think war is cool but are too cowardly to serve yourself. I think it's clear where Trump falls on this spectrum, but I'm not sure where Tim Walz fits here -- sounds like he was just ready to switch over to a political career. But nothing in his record that I've seen really points to him being particularly against war. You know, you have one guy in here saying Walz retired without knowing about troop mobilization, and you have another guy saying he retired because he "didn't want to commit a crime". These are not going to both be true.

So that's what I mean. No point in everyone tripping over oneself trying to define Walz as some patronus of their own personal values just to argue directly against whatever a Trump fanboi says.

“We can make sure that those weapons of war, that I carried in war, is the only place where those weapons are at,” Walz said in the video.

You can interpret that however you want, but I think it's misleading.
