I snagged this one a while back from Dave's when they rolled out the first batch of the PRS NOS 2007 Brazilian Rosewood guitars in 2013 and realized I had never posted the thread! These guitars were absolutely killer pieces, the McCarty models were mostly McKorina examples (which means they were Korina bodies and necks with Brazilian Rosewood fretboards) and those are right in my tonal wheelhouse. Korina is such a wonderful tonewood, it's like an even more magical (IMO haha) version of mahogany where it has all the great qualities of mahogany but the high end is just a bit sweeter and I find that quite pleasing to the ears. Pair korina + Brazilian Rosewood (or other RW varieties, I've tried several different types and loved them all actually!) + P90's and you will hear exactly what I'm talking about! Brash and raw like a humbucker with a very clear and even tone with the high end chime of a single coil, the wood and pickup combo is well-documented for it's tonal awesomeness! When I saw that PRS had finally been allowed to release their BRW stash within the US on these limited guitars, I had to jump one one! :D

This one is a seriously PERFECT example if there ever was one! The Korina used for the body and neck for this beauty is featherweight (even with all the hardware, pickups and strings on there it comes to a whopping 6.6lbs!) and the Brazilian Rosewood is darker than a chocolate bar and has that tight and straight grain that is one of the real reasons folks search for in the truly good stuff! Feels smooth like Ebony but sounds like a fantastic piece of Rosewood! White Limba and Black Limba can both look awesome but based on the natural finished ones I've seen, PRS seems to be using mostly White Limba which doesn't typically have much or any banding at all so it can tend to be a little dull-looking. I scoured through 200+ examples looking for the best combination of dark/even-looking BRW boards and lightest weights and then from there narrowed it down by colors I liked. There were only 2 that came close to this weight and one happened to be Frost Blue Metallic which is one of my favorite vintage-looking finishes that PRS offers so I knew it was the one for me!

It's funny as I've had this one for a while but sadly she spent most of her time in the case, so recently I had listed her up for sale on a couple forums since we need a new stove and microwave combo and I figured it would be nice to swing it without touching the bank account. Recently realized I had a couple offers from stores I have bought large appliances from in the past and the cards allow you to make the purchases with 0% interest for a year so I picked this one up again, adjusted the pickups some more and realized I'd have to be desperate for cash to just let this one go! Yanked all my listings and she's here to stay, so figured I'd toss up some more pics and an official thread now!

Note: These pics were taken at essentially high noon, so the sun was directly overhead and not a cloud in the sky, the BRW looks substantially darker under normal light obviously!

Here are a couple indoor cell phone shots so you can see what I mean about the fretboard being substantially darker when it's not being blasted by searing overhead sunlight!

not trying to be a dick or downplay your NGD, but can someone tell me why they would use a bridge that doesn't allow you to adjust the intonation on an otherwise amazing guitar?

Sweet, dude!

If you don't mind, how many guitars do you own anyway?!

Could you make a pic where the whole familly is on it?

That would be so awesome...

Thanks man! Yeah the last 3 pics at the bottom are the closest to how it looks in person really. It's a metallic finish so it has that semi-sparkle metallic sheen to the finish and the color is definitely more accurate in the last 3 shots. :D

If you look at the bridge, you can see the design is compensated for intonation. There are screws on each side of the bridge that are moved back and forth to adjust the intonation. The range is not as far as a bridge that has individual saddles so if you're using an open tuning, it would certainly not work AS well, but that's not what it was designed for really. If you set the distance correctly, the bridge handles the intonation for you. I believe someone bought a Private Stock and had it set up for Drop-C using the standard bridge so clearly it has a somewhat decent range.

I'm not sure offhand what the final count has been brought to as I've had a few new ones come and a few go. It's really quite a bit of work to bring them all up for the group shot, I've been meaning to do it but I've been super busy with work and too tired or busy on the weekends to handle the undertaking. We'll see if I can make time to do it, might need to bust out my fisheye lens though...

thanks for the clarification. Over the past year or so I've began to exclusively play in open tunings so If a guitar doesn't have individually adjustable saddles it's an automatic deal breaker for me. Either way, I absolutely love that color blue with the gold hardware.

Actually clarification as I just went between both rooms (gear is still a little spread out between the living room and the guitar room right now since Ryan and I were working on a half dozen last weekend :D) to get the updated count, currently sitting at 16 instruments total as of today. I think you could see why that would be a little bit of a PITA to set up a family picture with all of them! ;)

Haha yeah tell me about it! I have to do string changes on weekends and try to knock out 1-2 guitars at a time. Most of mine get .010's and I use D'Addarios because I prefer how they sound and they seem to last longer than stuff like Ernie Ball strings, obviously not as long as coated strings but long enough. I try to grab the monster D'Addario "Bulk Shop" 25-set box when I grab strings, or I look for deals on discounted bulk buys for other guitars that have unique string sets like my stuff that is in drop-B. :yesway:

Today's string change and fretboard clean-up selections were this McKorina and my CU24 AP Pinky:

Nice! Love that color, you have a sick PRS collection. I feel you pain on the maintenance side, I have around 20 electrics (I think) myself. String purchases in bulk are a must, I try remember to use Dunlop string cleaner and wipe them down after playing. It helps them last a little longer.

100% out of control. Do you still have the Thorn? With both of them having GT90s (I think?), how do/did they compare?

I love that colour Matt! But the Braz means I can never ever buy this from you :(

If you find a nice green or natural Cu22 stoptail with a IRW for a reasonable price, do me a solid and grab it for me

Well, there is one of these for sale used in Canada (not sure how they pulled that off since it doesn't have the marking on the back of the headstock?) right now:
