Searching for a 7 for studio use, and found a CL thread - guy selling a supposed project 7621 in pieces on the cheap:

Has most hardware, body primered, three pickups (one being a DiMarzio DP759), says it's a Wizard-7 with no nut. Any chance that this looks legit? I'm a bassist, so, not sure of the fishiness :)

No matter which way you cut it, the neck is a 7621 neck, because both it and the 7421 has the same exact neck. With that in mind, it makes almost no difference which model it actually is.

Heh! Thanks guys! :) He's selling it all for $150, so er. Yeah. Think I'd be a moroon if I didn't create a small dust cloud on my way over there.

Update: Yup - even has RG7-621 on the neck joint.

Awesome guy. Great jazz player! Converts 7 string necks to 8 string, strings it with bass strings on the bottom - low E bass, low E guit, low A bass, A guit, then standard. Plays both the bass parts and the guitar. Has a guitar synth for the high strings. I made him play Girl From Ipanema and Autumn Leaves. Couldn't resist.

He got the Ibby out of a pawn shop in pieces, to use the Wizard neck on another project guitar. The 24-fret profile didn't work on the body he had, so. Yay! The neck's only got wear below the 6th fret. He says, "I was looking at the frets, and it looks like whoever had it was a country player. Why would somebody who plays country use a 7 string?" :)

Like I said, even if you got a 7421, the neck would have "7621" stamped on it. They both have the same neck. Body wood is the same. Only difference is the bridge, and since its fixed, it really doesn't matter.

The pickups look a bit odd. In my RG7620, the pickups were all black, and I think they had black allen bolt slugs for pole pieces. The pickups you have there seem to have silver pieces, so I don't know if they are the Dimarzio New 7s or not - I would be interested to see what they are!

The only way to tell if the body is a 7621 or a 7421 is the pickup tab routes. Triangle is 7621 and square is 7421.

FWIW, the bridge saddles look like the ones on the 7621 as opposed to the 7421 shown below.

I just got a 7420, and my neck has 7-420 stamped on it.
The early models of the 7420 had the 7620 neck on it, but the later models of it had a closely resembled neck, except the 7420 neck has a Bubinga stripe instead of a Rosewood stripe like the 7620.

Just clearing that up. That's how I figured out what mine was before i took the neck off of it to make sure.
