I'm out of the loop, so I tried looking it up. Someone said he had a story about him fucking a couch in his autobiography, but such a story doesn't exist in his autobiography. Is that really all it is?

Someone on Twitter created and posted a fake excerpt from Hillbilly Elegy where he discusses fucking his couch. They followed it up IMMEDIATELY with some image about how fun it is to lie on the internet - they didn't leave it sit for a while trying to trick people. It was a total joke. Unfortunately for Vance, the first post only was retweeted a million times by all sorts of different sources who either found it hilarious and wanted this to catch on, or who actually believed it. Then news outlets started picking it up, because they were too stupid/lazy to actually do the research to find the obvious joke original context. I think the original poster is blameless and a comedy genius. The fact anyone would believe this speaks volumes as to how seriously Vance is being taken.

Unlike the couch thing, JD Vance DID self-own himself by posting evidence that he'd done a google search for Woman and Dolphin together.
I suspect he had seen that image before, got the bright idea to make a hilarious post including it, and was just trying to find it again as opposed to actively searching for human/dolphin porn in his spare time, but it's much funnier to pretend that's the case.
