Here I've been on SSO enjoying all the guitar pr0n and not giving back. Today, I settle this account.

My dream acquisition came true in 2022 when I finally commissioned a customised flamenco guitar from rising-star luthier, Jose Salinas.

The brief was simple: standard scale, 50mm nut, a cutaway and an extended fretboard to the 21st fret. Other than that, I left the choice of wood to him on sonic quality alone, with the simple instruction that this be a modest guitar, to reflect its owner: a modest man with much to be modest about.

This is what he delivered. I've played Fletas, Ramirezes, Maldonados, an Esteso and even an Archangel Fernandez. This compares favourably with the last two. I'm humbled to own it.

The first picture is mine. The ones that will follow are the luthier's.

Oooooh, I forgot the final wood spec:

Top: German Spruce
Back and sides: Cypress
Neck: Cedar
Fretboard: Ebony

Jose normally likes highly-figured rosewood, maple, cocobolo and other exotic woods for the back and sides, but with my brief, he allowed himself a bold straight-grained bookmatched Cypress back:
