I am surprised how few fusion albums seem to be favored here.I always thought that was a natural genre for guitarists in metal who were technically oriented

Were there some good fusion releases in 2011? Apart from the Levin Torn White disc I mentioned, which is arguably fusion, I'm not really aware of any, but I haven't paid a lot of attention either. (Maybe because I'm not a technically-oriented metal guitarist? *shrug*)

I haven't stopped listening to Anna Calvi's debut album since I bought it as her sound is very melodic but with a very dark core beneath plus her guitar playing is great and some of the song arrangements are so good I'm actually jealous.

Possibly some other things but I'm tired. Steven Wilson's Grace For Drowning is my album of the decade.

Some of my favorites have been said already (Luna Sea, DTP Ghost, Aristocrats, Major/Minor) so...

Gotye - Making Mirrors

Australian radio is at the mercy of Somebody I Used To Know, and for good reason. However don't let that put you off what has to be an outstanding album overall. Wally DeBecker does it again.

Deluhi - Vandalism

Their final hour rerecords and rearranges some of their classics. Though it's very Metal oriented, it's still essentially J-Rock, and the production shows. RIP

Sid - Dead Stock #4

Sugary J-Rock never sounded this good. And it covers a fair amount of musical styles too, all being memorable.

Some others I can't remember...

lolwut Self Cover?

It's actually a re-recording of their first album.

See here...most of these are fusion:

Al Di Meola: Pursuit of Radical Rhapsody
Steven Wilson: Grace for Drowning
Brett Garsed: Dark Matter
Allen Hinds: Monkeys and Slides
John Scofield: A Moment's Peace
Oz Noy: Twisted Blues
Sean Wayland: Australian Rhythm Changes (with James Muller)
Gergo Borlai: M.M.M.
Sebastiaan Cornelissen: The Sebastiaan Cornelissen Group
The Code/John Pelosi: Dreams Speak Song
Vince Mendoza: Nights On Earth
Captain Kirk: Starship Cadillac
