Hi all.
I bought a brand new Ibanez S7420. The guitar is great but I have problem with position of the bridge. When I loosen the springs as much as the bridge's block reached zero point bar, the bridge position seems to be weirdly high.
Please take a look at the attached photos and give me a hint. Is it a common issue with this model? Is there a way to fix it myself?

The problem seems to be with the zps unit. If you can adjust the zero point bar to where the bridge is nice and level then that is what I'd do. If you can't get it set right you can remove the zero point bar, as many do because it gives the bridge a stiffer feel.

I'd like to use this guitar with all features, including ZPS system. As far as I looked at this mechanism there is no way to change the placement of the zero point.
I hope that more users of this kind of bridge will give me some feedback.

Yes, I know that this gives the bridge a stiffer feel :)

You need to balance the tension via the springs at the back to bring the bridge flat. Those pictures are about as wrong a setup as you can get. Check out a youtube demo regarding setting the unit up and look at the difference.

Yes, I know that it looks bad but this is the best position to get the contact between bridge's block and zero point bar.
I posted this thread because I am worried about ZPS bar's stoppers which seems to don't have any regulation.

this is very strange... The rear cavity should be routed the same as all other ZR-equipped S guitars, and the ZPS and bridge anchors should be placed the same as all others too. It'd be very weird if they installed the ZPS in your guitar too far back. Can we see some photos of the rear cavity?

I'll put some photos when I get back home. It would be after couple of hours but I'll add a photo with bridge's block touching the ZPS bar and bridge's block when bridge is aligned paralel to the body of the guitar.

OK, so here are missing photos.
First one shows the bridge's block when the bridge was high (as on previous photos).
Second pic presents current position of the bridge, and third shows corresponding position of bridge's block.
I got a good hint that I forgot before. In this setup I can perform a flutter which I shouldn't be able to do with working ZPS.

I can't remember the name of it but in my S470 I removed the bar to the right of the trem block making it a fully floating trem

Wow, I can't see anything in those photos... Perhaps remove the back plate and turn on some more lights?

@Gregadethhh: I think he wants it to work as intended, and not get rid of the functionality of the ZPS.

I think that you can see the gap between ZPS bar and bridge's block on the third photo. On the first one there is no gap.

are you sure the ZPS bar is seated correctly? it does appear to be too far back. hard to tell.

Yes, it's a bit too far but it rests on its stoppers firmly.

You might have a slightly defective unit. I think mine's a little high with the ZPS in but not THAT high.

I had the same issue on two Edge Zero equipped Ibanez guitars I've owned. In order for the stop bar to make contact with the trem, the trem was not at level, just like how yours is. To help, I removed the foam that cushions the ends of the ZPS bar, that moved the bar inward toward the headstock, and the trem was a bit more level but still not 100%.

There's a few new Ibanez models I'd like to buy, but I'm not a fan of the Edge Zero. I really wish Ibanez would go back to a normal trem system so I could block the bridge with a tremol-no.

I made a guitar with floyd rose once and I don't like bridges with knives. Ball bearing is the thing that I missed in floating tremolos. Ease of regulation of the intonation and springs tension is a plus, so Ibanez ZR is the only system I thought about.
I found that the problem might be solved by moving all mechanism which is on the back of the guitar, towards the neck. There is enough space in routing to do this. If european Ibanez distributor ignore my problem then I try to do this.
