Ok - I just bought the Stephen Carpenter 607B and I really, really like it. I haven't had ANY problems with where the pickups are placed...but then again, I play with Jazz IIIs so there isn't really a whole lot of pick left to scrape against the pickups. I like the baritone scale, because it's definitely helping my low string stay in tune...because I drop mine down to G#. Basically, I tune down a half step, then drop the 6th down to C#, and then drop the 7th string down so it's octave with the 5th string. It's a neat tuning with double drops...and the baritone scale definitely helps that G# stay intonated and defined. :D
