I understood from the video that Lowell Kiesel changed the company's name from Kiesel to Carvin so he could start selling direct without getting into conflict with Kiesel dealers. Perhaps by changing their name back to Kiesel they're making a similar play in the international arena?

;D

^^^ This just in: yes, they do!

The world rejoices, inexpensive distribution direct from Kiesel.

San Diego's Carvin Corp. is splitting into two. Page 2 of 2 | UTSanDiego.com

As far as I know I'll be the one taking care of all those orders from Feb. 1 on.

Remember when I said that we had some BIG news in store for you guys? The split from Carvin Audio and Amps is one but the bigger news is what all the international guys have been begging us for years to happen will now finally happen.

Hey ChrisH, Jeff mentioned in the video that Kiesel pickups will come stock in all of the Kiesel models, but will they still be an option to add to regular/Carvin models? I don't need any fancy tops or treated boards, but Kiesel pickups in a DC7X would be nice if the option is there :) thanks!

Did I get it right, that after five years or smth direct orders are possible again :lol: It feels like the Berlin Wall was just demolished. :agreed:

"However, Carvin Guitars and Kiesel Guitars plans to soon begin handling overseas sales of all of its instruments directly. This move will cut down costs for consumers, according Jeff Kiesel."

If this means Carvin not using UPS to ship to Canada, I'll place an order Feb 2nd. My current desire of a CT7 which will be specced around $2700 right now is going to cost me another $800ish due to UPS shipping, so take that away and It'll actually be much more worth it.

How do you pronounce Kiesel? Like geese or pie?

I've been pronouncing it Key-sil. Not sure if I'm right though.

I guess Chris wasn't joking when he said big changes, can't wait! Though the recent usd appreciation against the Gbp is a bit annoying.

Big block of text from ChrisH on Carvin BBS to help put my own personal worries to bed:

Hello from Anaheim!!! I just got home from setting up our booth for NAMM :D
I really wish I could have been at corporate for the big news, I didn't find out it was made official until I got the email blast on my phone this morning.

My concerns stem around statements related to "Kiesel" models having options beyond what "Carvin" models have available.

This can be seen in the text on this page: Carvin.com - Guitars, Amplifiers & Pro Audio

Which states that Kiesel models have more customization available that Carvin models. Exact clarification on what form those customization take is lacking at this time.

All that really means is that options that aren't on the builder, i.e. Option 50 stuff falls under the Kiesel category. Whereas previously we just called them Opt 50s for lack of a better name now the custom requests can be in the realm of a Kiesel guitar.

When we say there is more customization than available on Carvin models it just goes to what people on this board have been doing forever. You want trans white on your guitar next guitar? That option is not in the builder and therefore a customization that isn't available on Carvin's website. What does that become? In our computer it is listed as a 50 option since it's not a standard Carvin option. That essentially qualifies for a Kiesel logo if you wish to have it on there. If you still want the Carvin logo, knock yourself out. The name does not take away from the instrument at all in quality or overall priority or care. Non-returnable Option 50's (like custom knob placements, deleting a neck pickup, ultra custom colors, etc), returnable Option 50's (faded denim, colors on burl or spalt, california bursts, trans white, trans black, etc), really cool looking packages that Jeff designs (i.e. Guitar Porn GP7X, aqua DC600 w/ aqua board, trans white CT with faded board), and so on are considered customizations beyond what the Carvin line technically offers.

So, if that wasn't clear or TL;DR

ANYTHING NOT IN THE BUILDER ONLINE IS WHAT "FURTHER CUSTOMIZATION" REALLY MEANS.

So nothing really different from what you Carvinites already know and love :D
You guys have to realize that while we as a very dedicated and loyal Carvin following here on the board may know all about these sorts of things, our name as a brand and our presence in the musical instrument scene and social media has exploded in just the past year alone. Our facebook page has more than quadrupled in size since last year, our instagram has experienced exponential growth since the previous year, and people all over various forums and pages are talking non-stop about Carvin. Many of these people have never purchased or even played a Carvin so they don't know anything about Option 50s or that you can even do stuff outside of what our normal builder offers. More and more people are hearing about Carvin every day so all this is new to people outside of this forum. You have no idea how many emails we all get every day about "I see this on a guitar online. I don't see it in the builder. How do I order this?" We get newbies on this forum asking about stuff like that all the time as well. You Carvinites are just in the "know" like some sort of cool kids club 8)

Aside from the 3 usual suspects from this board that took part in the run, almost every single person who took part in the Guitar Porn GP7X run were first time customers. Out of 50 customers, the vast majority were people who had never played a Carvin before so that definitely says something!

Hope that helps. I'll be chiming in from time to time over the course of the week from NAMM!

Come visit us if you're gonna be there!

More or less my take now:

Carvin = A Builder spec'd guitar.
Kiesel = New Jeff designed models and any model at all with "opt50s" or non-builder available options (Transwhite, colored fretboard, etc). Can still use Carvin logo if you want but Kiesel logo also available to you.

I was initially saying it like "pie," but have since seen a few videos where the gentlemen it's named after say their own names. It is in fact pronounced "key-zle."

If I understand well, it means we could order directly from Carvin when we're located in Europe? Huge news!!!

So Carvin Guitars is now Kiesel Guitars?

Or is everything created by Mark and Jeff AFTER today (or whenever) now strictly under the Kiesel line? (And they'll make some Carvins - pre-existing models created before this date - every now and then?)

Everything, save for one model, remains carvin from this point on. Any new models they make will be under the Kiesel name it seems. (like the Vader.) Not sure if they'll make new "Carvin" models, but the old ones remain Carvin.
