You could still get a new amp instead of really expensive headphones, but whatever floats your boat more. I recently found myself in possession of beats by dre. Perhaps it's because I didn't drop the insane price on them (I got them for free) but I like them a lot.

You are totally right. That $500 headphone will absolutely not show how bad the amp is at all.

I would abso-....in-lutely NOT buy a $25,- Sennheiser and plug that in a $150 Line6 or Peavey Vypyr.
