Some guy on PetrucciForum said:Here's a project I finished today. I scalloped frets 12-24 a couple weeks ago after getting curious enough to try it, liked the feel enough to do the rest, and decided to do something else in the process: pull the inlays out and replace with black dye-stained filler, then darken the whole (rosewood) fretboard. (I've always liked the look of my Carvin bass & Alvarez acoustic fretboards the most, both ebony with no inlays except for a 12th-fret quad-diamond/line thing on the Alvarez.) I scalloped a little deeper on the treble side, and tried to make an asymmetrical U shape from around the 7th fret down, the deepest part near the higher fret where you'd actually fret the note. The inlays were easy to drill through and pop right out, leaving just a little material around the edges to carefully grind off with a Dremel before filling. After all that and staining the board, the last thing I did was take the pickups out and paint the little wings that the mounting screws go through black. Looks a lot cooler with the rest of the guitar's scheme than catching a glimpse of the actual brass color.
