hey guys, another song from my new EP...really proggy/dark/djenty stuff.

worked on the kick a bit, brought some high end life into the guitars, hopefully got the bass right...

what do you think? I'm pretty concerned with the drum mix.

All guitars are quad tracked, 100% LR and 70% LR at -7 dB.
All drums are SD2.2, The Metal Foundry "Bleed" Kit.
All mixing and mastering was done with freeware in Reaper.
Gear:
Eleven Rack (Amp)
Agile Interceptor Pro 727
ESP LTD D-5 Bass.

that bass riff at 1:29 reminds me of this:

Tool - Schism - YouTube
:D

I don't like the sound of the bassdrum, it also gets a bit swallowed up by the whole mix, but that might as well be just me.

I like the song, though! Also nice structure/songwriting.
Keep up the good work

yeah that's definitely schism influence in there, except in drop C and not D, also not played in the same time signature. a little homage to the greats!

Diggin' the vibe and overall aesthetic of the mix. However, it sounds kinda distant. It needs to be pushed more "in your face" especially the kick and snare.

I enjoyed this a lot. I think the mix is good for the most part, the biggest issue I have is just that the snare doesn't really stick out to much. Somewhat agree with FourFour that at least that sounds kinda distant. It'd be nice if that punched through more and everything else could stay about the same volume. Otherwise, very good work. :D

just uploaded a new version with an extended bridge and louder drums. :)

upped the compression on the kick and snare, they are definitely more present now, and the kick has a strong presence in the sub 100hz frequencies.

I like kicks that you can 'feel' on a nice system.

That kick is very nice now! I dig the sound. I do think the snare could punch through more still, but it is improving.

thanks man. i think it's just a matter of more intelligent compression.

the kick is weird for me, maybe it's a stylistic choice? I feel that it could use more meat.

what specifically do you mean?
