wood is going to be korina body with flamed maple top, neck is hard rock maple with ebony fingerboard and goes thru body.:hbang:

I would love to see one of these as a 7...

That or an ML. I think I may be the only person alive who actually likes the Dean headstock, I'd keep that on there.

In terms of other options, definitely passives, and I'd go for an "ebonised" rosewood fretboard for costs. Maple neck, mahogany body and flame maple top if that was manageable. Basically, the one above but in a 7, 24 frets if possible (I'd say 26.5" scale but I think most people go for 25.5") and a Floyd! And no stupid graphics, just a nice see-through burst style finish of some description, Dean desperately need less stupid looking guitars.

I want a cadillac 7!
But WITHOUT that god awful headstock.
I remember seeing some lower end versions of the cadillac with a headstock similar to the soltero
it actually had a nice teal finish too. can anyone find a picture of what im describing?

other specs? dimarzio's, WITH a coil tap, and either 26.5" or 27" bridge and neck pickup, 1 volume, 1 tone, NEUTRIK locking input, and hipshot bridge, 3 way switch

Maybe even a maple board.

Hello everyone, I am participating in an event at my school to create a design for a guitar for Dean Guitars. My group and I have decided to design a 7 string because we love them dearly. I thought it would be a good idea to ask none other than the seven string playing community what they are looking for when they want to purchase a 7 string. Here are a couple things I personally look for: Is it Affordable? Is it versatile? More color options? Pickup options? Scale Length? Tremolo? Neck-thru or Bolt on?

Let me hear from you guys!

P.S. If my group wins this event our guitar design will be made into a limited run of models so be on the lookout in the next year for a new Dean 7 string that is definitely going to be unique.

I'm going off a hunch and calling this bull shit.

ML shape
Neck-thru
24 frets
DiMarzio X2N 7 and PAF Pro 7
Fixed bridge (probably tune-o-matic would look best)

That is all.

LP shape
At least 26.5in scale
Bolt-on maple neck with walnut strips (neck profile not too thin)
Maple fretboard
Alder/ash body with back and sides unfinished
Quilted/flamed maple veneer with color options or choice of a few solid colors
NO FUCKING BLACK GOD DAMNIT
Hipshot bridge
Passive routes with cheap pups to keep costs down, because we'll replace them anyways

Not sure which headstock to use. I don't think an in-line would look good on an LP.
Has to be 4+3 and it has to be classy.

Edit: Man I'm GASing for this so hard now. Please tell them to make this so I can buy it.

:wallbash: To people saying BKP.

Its supposed to be affordable.

I also wouldn't mind bolt on, easier than neck thru, less chance of them screwing it up and cheaper. If you use bolt on, have a heel sculpt like on the 2000's NJ BC Rich's. My Warlock from 2001 has a great heel on it.

I think something like a streamlined, compact body shape optimised for extended range guitars would be pretty sweet. They did it with Rusty Cooley's guitars, so they could pull something like that off no problem.

A more modern 7-string with a crazy cutaway and awesome balance would be a lot better than, say, an ML with 8-strings slapped on it.

If that doesn't work, +1 for 7-string Cadillac/assorted singlecut/generic superstrat thing.

My final vote:

Soltero or Deciever body
Mahogany body with figured maple veneer
Transparent charcoal/grey and transparent blue finishes and white binding
Hipshot-style bridge
DiMarzio D-activator 7, Duncan Distortion 7, or Blackout Phase 1 pickups
2 vol, 1 tone (with coil split), 1 3-way toggle
25.5 - 26.5 inch bolt-on maple neck with ebony fingerboard and block inlays
4x3 Soltero headstock

Yes! Loved my Evo S7 until my kid broke the neck. Great guitar for rythms and cleans, it was just the access wasnt great for upper frets. Making it bolt on with recessed washer for stability (like AANJ) would make it perfect.

I say offer something that's available in both 6 or 7 strings:

Flat top Cadillac body
Mahogany+flamed maple cap
Bolt-on maple neck
ebony fretboard
5-ply binding(a la LP custom)
OFR
26.5" scale
Regular V headstock for 6s and reverse 7-in-line for 7s
Gold or black hardware
a choice of active(EMG) or passive(DiMarzio/DMT) pups
A lot of different color choices.(PURPLE)

And yeah, a soltero with a hipshot would look bad.

Affordable 7 from dean I'm assuming.

Soooo neck thru, EMGs (Huge selling point for some so why not) Hard tail, ebony fret board, super strat shape, binding(Depending on color?) and 27 inch scale, agreed on the dave mustaine inline headstock tho. Oh and a basswood body, possible swamp ash or mahogany.

I'd go for that kinda guitar.... and I don't even like deans

EMGs are also a HUGE turn off to many people.
