Hey all!

I'm excited guys, because I've got 2 awesome new amps in the studio: the Peavey Invective 120 and the Invective MH Mini Head. (Quick disclosure up-front: I got a pretty good deal on these for my video but at my request). You guys all know of these amps right? I know I was very interested in both of these amps ever since they came out but they were a little hard to get at times. A lot of guys really wanted to see the MH on my channel too so that's another reason why I wanted that one.

In short: I'm blown away! With the 120, the tones on this amps are just there and the amount of tweaking that can be done is nothing short of amazing! The core 6505/5150 tones are certainly there but maybe with a little bit more fierceness by default. A little brighter and more saturated I think. The built-in boost functions totally make this amp even more versatile and that's what makes this amp so well suited for modern metal or extended range guitar tones.

The footswitch that comes with the amp also is great. I love how it lets you store presets and turn all the functions on or off. I wasn't expecting it to come with the amp 'for free' so I was super stoked about that. The built-in gate and master boost are also welcome additions and the 9v jacks on the back were a pleasant surprise!

The MH is also very cool! Very tiny of course, just as the 6505 MH. I haven't compared the Invective MH to the 6505 MH directly just yet but I think the Invective is more saturated and bright sounding. The MH is a bit brighter by default than the 120, probably because of the different poweramp layout (because the 120 gets darker when you turn up the post gains etc.) but that's easily dialed in with the presence and treble controls.

Anyway, here's my demo/review video with some 6, 7 and 8 string tones of both amps:

Anyone else here have one or have you ever tried one? There is a lot more to be said about these amps. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

I planned to buy one of these when they were announced. Peavey were so bad at actually supplying them that i eventually bought a 5153 Stealth 100W instead, and never regretted it since.
These looks like great amps but i've got enough 5150 amps now.

EVHs are killer too! I wouldn't mind trying a stealth one day!

I hadn't seen these, they look really versatile! I like the aesthetics as well, nice clean design.

Put in a request to be notified when in stock back in July of 2019 for the MH!

Hi Guitarjon, thanks for the video. I’ve got a question that others might also have.

Unfortunately I cannot try all these amps myself and in videos I only get snapshots. If you could only choose two of all the lunch box amps you reviewed for your studio and for personal use, which ones would you go for? I would be very interested to hear what amps you would settle on.

Thanks!

Good question! Hmmm right now (possibly because of the honeymoon phase) for metal I would choose the Invective MH tbh. But I really love all my others amps too. I guess it also really depends on the styles, the guitars etc. I also will never get rid of my mini Rectifier because there is nothing quite like it. So I don't want to choose, but I guess that's what I would choose.

Love my 120. That amp is THE shit. I live on the crunch channel and the cleans are fantastic.

Really versatile, and I honestly think more modern amps should have the features it has(seems more companies are catching on to this tho).

I really miss the built in boosts, gate, programmability, onboard power supplies and dual fx loops when I play my H&K now. Which I've been doing lately as I'm having tube issues(volume dropping in and out on the crunch channel). But now I have an excuse to put JJ KT88's in her finally, which I made a thread about a while back.

It's a great amp, but unfortunately the availability issues and country of origin bickering kind of put a damper on things.

Nice videos as always, Jon

What H&K amp do you have? Love my H&Ks!

I think I missed all the bickering luckily! I'm just really happy with my amp for various reasons. It really is a desert island amp for me because of all it can do. I think it's so stupid how people get pissed that a lot of amps are made in Asia. Most of my amps were made in China or elsewhere in Asia and they sound and perform just as good as the ones that were made in the USA for example. That's just my opinion anyway...

People were lied to that it was made in America, only to get the old bait and switch, so maybe learn the context before you pass judgment next time.

I was just talking about amps from China in general and my opinion stands. I'm not aware of anyone being lied to and of course that's not good...

Peavey at NAMM and Misha sold people on the idea that the Amp was being made in America. Then there was delays and some discussion of putting "made in USA" stickers on when there was a made in China sticker on the chassis, if memory serves. Questions arose, and Misha was supposed to get factory pics to prove it was made in America, which were never provided. Following that, they eventually just dropped it and they left it as "Made in China."
