Hey Ernie Ball pals. I have a quick question for you. Not sure how many will be able to answer this, but I'll give it a go. Is there much of a tonal difference between the Artisan Majesty and the regular Majesty models? Does anyone know? I know the Artisan is made of Honduran Mahogany and the regular model is basswood I just am wondering how substantial the difference in tone is.

Technically, the Artisan would slightly heavier and with warmer tone. In practice, when testing both side-by-side, I found no noticeable difference at all.

Ugly guitars, BTW.

both guitars have a mahogany neck trough, the artisan has mahogany wings instead of basswood, so the amount of difference in wood I would say its pretty minimal.

I like the look of the Artisan better in the trans blue, but I also like the normal Majesty in white.

Just buy the one you like the look better

Ive actually had both of them in 7 strings. I found the regular basswood bodied one to be a bit more sterile and tight, while the artisan was a more warm and bassy and had a little more "oomph" in the mid section. Both played great, but i felt that i could accomplish more with the standard one actually, it was definitely more versatile to me, but i like brighter woods anyways. This is all just IMHO tho.. Good luck!

The majesty, IMO, is the most consistent instrument form one guitar to the next, artisan or otherwise. I played a BUNCH at NAMM last year and they all played, felt, and sounded like the Arctic Dream 7 I used to have.

Don't get the artisan for any other reason than aesthetics.

I haven´t been able to compare both. But if any of my guitars from other builders serve as a reference the different wood choices in the construction with give both guitars a different character, with different overtones and such. Mahogany usually sounds darker and basswood is a more open cushioned sound in my experience. But then al these things can be sorted out with pickups, your amp and eq. I am a fan f just buying what you like best and just figuring out how to make it work.

That said Majesty´s are surprising guitars. I have hated the design since it came out. But recently I saw a regular black model in a guitar center in NY and was shocked. So much I had to play it. This is one of the rare cases in which the photographs don´t do the instrument justice. They really look cool and appealing in person. In the pictures they look plastic whereas in person they are really stunning, well finished guitars. And the way they are contoured is so comfortable. I loved playing it. The only thing keeping me from getting one is the inlay. it is the only thing I don´t like about the guitar. Almost like a tattoo I´d regret kinda thing.

Aesthetics would be the only real difference. You would need the ears of a bat to tell the difference in tone between the two.

I used to think they were ugly until I saw it in person, it looked better in person and the playability was killer.

Only difference is visual. Insanely playable guitar. Any JP model is really so if you didn't like the shape as the other unanointed  then you could go for a JPX series

In the meantime, I'll just leave this here....

We've got one of each in stock at our shop at the moment and having played both I would say it is totally just a looks thing, there's no discernible tone difference to my ears.

I saw them in person, and I played too. Yes, it has great playability... but I was deeply disgusted by the looks. Also it's a small guitar, on a big guy it looks like an ukulele. :ugh: (JP himself is NOT a big guy, just bulky, maybe he wants to look bigger though.)
