I've recorded the guitar tracks into garageband and was looking to see if anyone had any advice on EQ for distorted metal-type guitars that still have that Djenty attack and presence. Sorta like Born of Osiris...

What sort of EQ do you recommend? Lowpass? High pass filter? Tacos for breakfast?

I just wanna enhance the tone that I've already recorded. Sorry, I suck at mixing and mastering.

High pass between 80-100Hz usually
Low pass around 12kHz
3.5-5kHz is mostly unnecessary "fizz"
250Hz is usually the culprit behind muddiness or "flub"

I hope this helps some :yesway:

Take that with a grain of salt.

Because that's a blanket statement.

It's kinda like asking :

"I need tires for my car. What should I get?"

You'd need to know what size, what you want, what you want to spend.....etc.

Hopefully that analogy makes sense.

This.

These are just broad suggestions. Every guitar, amp, pickup, amp sim, etc. is different and obviously repsonds very differently. Experimentation with eq is basically a never ending endeavor.

Remember its always better to cut than boost when EQ'ing!

This.

Subtractive EQ for the win.

I would recommend reading Slipperman's Guide to Recording Distorted Guitars or whatever its titled that's stickied. It goes over common frequencies and how they are usually handled.

Fair enough. Broad questions deserve broad answers. I just kinda want a starting point and some tips. I wont settle on a particular suggested setting
