Ever have the situation where you have an amp you're happy with...you and the amp have your ups and downs..but you can't part with it because you love it?

Despite the love for the amp, you're eying other amps, thinking about what might be better or getting something just for a change..but you always come back to the amp you're "married" too? It "cooks, cleans, and takes care of all your needs" amp wise so you're content with what you've got at home.

Every single time I think about getting a new amp..the ol' DTX wins me over again. Everytime I want a new tone or something different, it finds a way to give me what I want. All the other amps I try sound good, but not so good that I want to spend the cash for it. So far the DTX has killed the gas for:
Mesas (Triple Recto, Mark series, and Stiletto to be exact)
6505
Randall RM100
VHT Pitbull
Ibanez Thermion
VHT Sig: X
Splawn Nitro

And it's proving itself amongst the current gas for:
Marshall DSL100
Peavey 3120

Both of those amps I'd still like, but I'm really thinking over whether or not they'll be worth it right now. I might end up with the DSL because I'll force myself to buy it regardless of my not wanting to spend the money..but if I didn't get anything else I'd be pretty happy.

I know Zim's that way with his VHT/Fryette...what about the rest of you?

I am with my VHT. In case you did not notice I just pulled my for sale thread here. I know I am in love with my UL and have never found a better tone for me. I just keep getting under the state of mind that "I must buy things..or I should try other things before I settle.

So far I have had a XXX, 5150 (for a few days), Framus Dragon, Mesa Mark IV, and a JCM 900 as a loaner for a bit and for what I am looking for none of them even come close to touching my Ultra-lead. I still catch myself browsing forums and ebay every day but I think it is O.C.D at this point. I don't know if I will ever get rid of my VHT considering I had sellers remorse before even selling it.

I can't stop eyeballing the new Uberschall and it is killing me. I just don't think I could drop the VHT without spending some time with one first.

I think I drive JJ insane talking about what I might buy every day.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I think it's just the gear nerd in me that wants all these things..and every time I see a NAD I think about getting something..and through it all I still have my same old setup...nothing's changed. I browse Ebay constantly and all that.

I think it's also because I invested a lot of time and money on this amp. I changed it from the inside out and I've built my sound around it. Whatever I buy (if I buy anything) is under the sole rule that it has to give me what the DTX does..but better, or something complimentary. I have yet to find that amp..so I'll stick with this.

Yeah. The Carvin Legacy.

There is nothing quite like it. And I'm too poor to afford a Bogner

I'm that way about my ART DST-8080. I actually really like the JCM900 DR I just picked up, but I don't think I like having 2 nice amps around as much as I'd like to have the money to use toward something else, and the DST-8080 definitely isn't going to be the one to leave.

My recto and I are kind of like that. I get sellers remorse just thinking about selling/trading it. The only thing that MIGHT be able to take it's place is the Sig:X as I really loved the d60 but it didn't have a loop or a second channel. Maybe some day.

I really want a Savage too, but its more out of curiosity than anything.

I'm like that with anything I buy, once its in my possession I can't get rid of it.

I see you guys trading guitars and amps etc constantly and I think its crazy since I could never see myself selling or trading one of my guitars.

The amp is more likely though, I've got attachment issues in my marriage instead of commitment issues.

I'm married to my JSX too .

I'm not getting rid of it - I'll definitely get more amps, but that one stays.

More amps are in my future, just not right now lol. Next stop, Peters Hydra.

My Reinhardt 18....had this amp 5 years, and bought 2 amps in the interim, that have disappeared from my gear collection.

Personally I really love my Engl fireball. I have owned a few high quality amps (peaveys, marshalls,VHT, and others), and i still find myself coming back to this one. I know a lot of people say that it is too weak and does not cut in with the band well, and stuff like that. For the most part I usually just play it at home, and when i play shows, and i always mic it, and it sounds perfect with the band. Never getting rid of that one.

I feel bad adding to this thread, because mine is hardly a high end amp, but my marshall avt100 has been my workhorse for a good number of years, missing knobs and everything...when I am away from it, I dream of engl powerballs, peavey 6505s etc...but when I actually plug it in and krank it, it sounds like me, regardless of where the eq is...it's comfortable...in a way, it's like a lot of our relationships with our playing and sound...sometimes it's more about sounding and playing like you than it is about having ideal tone or good tone...anyway...moral of the story...I am always looking to upgrade my amp, but doubt i will for a long time...I think lots of my playing developed around this amp

Nothing to feel bad about. This is exactly my point. It doesn't have to be a high end amp..but it works and it's what you always come back to despite playing "better" things.

I've tried out a few higher end amps then what I have. At this point in my playing career, I more or less know how to dial in My Tone through anything I plug into. It's a blessing and a curse - my sound doesn't change much even if i go from a dual rec to my jsx to a VHT CLX, but it lets me hear the flavour.

The metal guitar tones I like to hear on albums and at live shows is not the metal guitar tone that I dial in for myself.

I'm still learning new things about my amp..so I'm not quite finished with it. I just fully got into the gain knob. Rolled down it let's more twangy mids in to give you a really cool sound for low gain passages, and turned up the mids darken and thicken for metal playing. I've picked up some other things as well...I fucking love this thing
