IYO, which album/song did Meshuggah have the best tone on?

I think that Fredrik had some sick tones on Sol Niger Within. Inside of Meshuggah though, I think Chaosphere or Nothing are my favourites tonewise, in particular New Millenium Cyanide Christ.

Maybe you posted in the wrong forum.

However to awnser you, I would say Chaosphere, hands down. It had an unique tone that I think we will never see again in any other record. Imo the combination of the distorted bass (a key element in Mesh's sound), which sounds more agressive here than on any other Mesh records, with the strange drums ... resonating metal snare with a very trebly kick, but low in the mix, and with the heaviest guitar tone ever (based on mesa rectos if I'm not mistaken) was killer. The whole thing had a really unnatural agressive edge that can't be matched on any other mesh records, except maybe Nothing. I miss that era, nowadays Mesh sounds heavier but not as agressive imo... Re nothing was kinda big disappointment for me... (wtf with the cymbals, key element in polyrythms).

Concerning sol niger, I don't know why but I think the tone pretty much sucks, maybe because the mixing is kinda crappy ... just lacks some agressivness...

My favorite meshuggah tones come from I and Catch 33...

The tone on Nothing is also pretty sweet In my opinion :)

I like the guitar tone on Sol Niger quite a bit, but it's very unnatural sounding. It works for the album, but I wouldn't want it for myself.

But I think their best tone is the Nothing remix/rerecord, line 6 tones aren't my favorite (don't shoot me if I'm mistaken about that) but those are the best I've ever heard them sound.

For their tube amp days, I really like the tone on Future Breed Machine.

One more vote for Nothing.

EDIT: Oompa wins that one. Chaosphere definitely has a better tone now that I listen to them again.

I think I like bulb's cover of Glints Collide better than the original though

New millennium cyanide Christ.

I prefer Meshugahs lead tone, verses their rhythm tone. Call me crazy.

ehm. nothing has by far the worst tone. and worst sound. the whole album sounds like a midicover of a meshuggah album, wich is madness when the songs are so good (exept stengah). the sounds are way to clean, and the drums sound like apesh*t.

chaosphere all the way on tone, like steng4h wrote, it has a unique sound.

Chaosphere, but I don't like the tone on any of their albums.

I gotta say I like most of Thordendal's lead sound. I love the breath controller's weird mystical almost animal like tone.

Chaosphere's tone is awesome - it actually came from Mesa .50 Calibers I believe. Or maybe Mk.IIc's. I can't remember, I have it saved on my computer (I am using a friends)

Everything prior to that pas Pod PRO I believe.

I like the tone on the original Nothing WAY more than the remix though. :agreed:
