Not sure where to put this, but this looks neat. A one-off from Ron Thorn.

sigh.....not too jazzed about any offerings from my favorite brand. I also may be in the minority (always am) but I really prefer non-recessed floyds when it comes to Fender strats and is a deal breaker when considering a purchase

Also I know theres some pushback on the Squier Contemporaries for the black headstock, but I dig it. Throwback to the OG '80s Contemporary and other hot-rodded Fenders of the time.

I dig the black headstock too. They look great on the HM and Boxer series. I'm really digging the HH strat with floyd. For those unaware, Sweetwater had some exclusive Squier models with the roasted neck over the last year. The color range of the necks varied a lot so if you have a strong preference one way or the other it might be worth it to order from somewhere that shows you the actual guitar.

Squier really getting their act together. Shame space is at a premium in my friend's apartment I've moved into, as I would totally get that Floyd'd model for shits and giggles.

I wish they'd get with the times and make a 7-string, traditional trem Jazzmaster.. A limited run would sell out and prove a point. Extended range guitar is here to stay. And a trad 7 string tele would be awesome too.

Those red inlays are really cool. And a sustainer? That's nice!

I thought the Ed O'Brien Strat was cool because it had a sustainer, but I like this way more. Fender at this point is pretty much just catering to all my GAS with all the new models they're coming out with.

Glad to see Fender making some more exciting things to bring a more modern approach. Funny thing is they have tried this many times over the years and the guitars only last so long. As a long time fan of the Showmaster series, I can say most that have them from Korea or Mexico production are impressed. The USA Custom Shop Showmasters are scarce and the history on them hard to pin down in terms of # acutually made, but they are the bomb. New body shape, hand scrapped binding, flame or quilt maple tops over alder, 22 fret, deluxe 2 pt trem, only two knobs AND they are out of the way, one piece flame or birdseye, LSR nut, staggered locking Sperzel tuners...Just like TA, Mayones, Suhr, Schecter of today. One SD 59 trembucker and two custom shop Texas fat 50's in HSS...or two hums. And there was a neck-thru version as well!

There is no doubt that either the FMT or QMT Showmasters were ahead of their time for Fender as the guitars seem to be spec'd out like what is popular today. When most folks see mine they think it is a Suhr with a Fender replacement neck. He designed it and then left Fender, so the bolt-on versions announced in 1998 only lasted until about 2005 and were totally replaced with the Showmaster Elites which is a different animal albeit very nice too. It's a shame because they were/are fantastic guitars and I think they would be perfect in todays market. Mine is the lowest serial # I have seen and from 2002 and I have personally not seen bolt-ons later than 2004. So my guess is that a few of these configurations were really only made over 3-5 years but who knows.
