I was 15 when I got my first 7 string that was 20 years ago and they're still my go to. When did you get your first 7?

03-08-1997. I remember because until recently I still had the original box it shipped in. It was the dark blue rg7520 (7620) and I got it as soon as they became available for order to me. Before that I spent a few years trying to get an originl Universe Steve Vai 7 string, but they were impossible to find and expensive. This was pre-internet times for the most part. I loved 7 string from the day I picked it up and didn't really care about owning 6's much after that.

My first seven is a Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas style 2 (that’s a mouthful aye)
Then I got a Kiesel AJ7E and I haven’t plugged another guitar in since getting the Kiesel. Amazballs

Edit
I got the Charvel in March then the Kiesel in August 2019. So relatively new to 7’s

1st - Peavey Predator 7
2nd - Ibanez RG7321

Then, I gave up with 7s. I got a Digitech Drop. Any of my 6s can downtune now by semi-tones down to an octave.

My first 7 was a Douglas from Rondo music, and man I hated that thing. I had no idea how to set up guitars then, but it just wouldn't stay in tune to save my life. Eventually I joined a band that made me use it, and all that misery prompted me to cave and get a Schecter Loomis model which I liked much more.

But it all began with that awful, $150 Douglas.

Same here. I was 18 or 19 and while I could feel the quality of every single part compared to anything else I had played, I definitely didn’t properly appreciate it. Never should have sold it.

beater 7420 with EMGS and somehow incredible setup. 10 years later it still sounds and feels better than my boden 7, majesty 7, and J custom 7...

my first 7 string was a beat up rg7321. I bought it off craigslist when I was still in high school, so like 10+ years ago

My first exposure to 7 strings was back in 2003/2004 thanks to Deftones
First hands on was sometime in 2014, it was a Musicman JPX7
Early 2016 I managed to get an ESP SRC7 from a member here (thanks !)
Following year I traded the JPX7 for a Mayones Regius 7
Shortly after that came LTD SC607 sunburst (sold)

Now kinda in the look for a Regius Elements 7/Gothic Textures spec, and possibly Ibanez K7

I think it was 2017: PRS SE-7

I was doing the 6-string baritone thing for the longest time, but wasn't digging long scale lengths all that much, just a little too uncomfortable for me. I think it was in 2017 I picked up a used PRS SE-7, which is a 'shorter scale' 7-string (25") funny enough, would prefer it to be 25.5 but I got the guitar for a good price so I can't complain. I've since upgraded the pickups to Duncan Pegasus/Sentient and put on some locking tuners.
