Yeah, cool they're doing a mass production version.

I'm curious if those are just stock Gibson P90s or if they're copies of the Jaydee-rewound high-output P90s.

I also wonder if they'll go as far as doing his #1 Jaydee down the road?

This is exactly the sort of thing I need to not spend money on.

Further evidence that all the less affluent Tool fanatics need to calm down.

I guess the fingerboard being lacquered is too crazy for a production model.
Also Epi version in the future, probably?

Or, you know, you could just buy a current SG Special and change the bridge and put rings on the P90s. I'm sure that's less than the $1K MSRP difference.

This is for the super fan who doesn't have $20k to drop on the actual Monkey, but can drop $2400, slap some JD replica pickups in and pretend their Tony.

Folks have been selling "Iommi conversion" Specials for around $2k for awhile, so Gibson is just beating them too it.

This is also undercutting JD stuff in NA.

That price is insane though. For pretty much the same price in the UK (slightly more if you're in the US) you can get Jaydee to build you one that's an exact replica, and is also built by the man who built Tommys. $2400 for an SG special with P90s is ridiculous.

What's availability like on JD over there?

The sticking point here is that you'll be able to grab one [Gibson] from just about anywhere, even in person to try in some cases.

I'd want the JD more, but that's going to involve a wait and ordering from overseas.

Last time I looked the wait time was about 3 - 4 months from ordering so not too bad. You're right about availability of the Gibsons though
