So I found a 99 S7420 in a pawn shop a couple of years back, there are a few dings here and there, stock pickups, the pots are crackly. But otherwise I really treasure this guitar, I have decided that the time has finally come to give it a good ole' restoration and general pimp out. my plans are as follows:

Matte black undercoat (any recommendations of product would be RAD)

With lime green and green/yellow paint dribbled over it in strands. (picked these acrylics up today)

satin clear coat (once again, can anyone suggest something easy, cheap?)

I'm going to Tung oil the neck.

Throw in a set of CL/LF pups along with new pots, 5 way selector etc.

Steel wool the frets with 0000 grade wool.

block the trem

And just give everything else an oil (in the case of hardware). and a good cleaning (fingerboard)

Pics will be coming very soon. Hopefully sanding will commence early next week... I will have arms of steel in the coming weeks no doubt ;)

I will be watching this thread with great interest theo!

I think I have a brand new pot lying around, I will see if I can find it for you.

That would be sweet man! Its only the volume pot thats dodgy actually, the tone pot will probably be fine with a little spray of wd40 into it.

dont wd-40 the pot. use pot cleaner/lube available at radio shack.

also naptha cleans frets and fretboards at the same time. no need to steel wool frets.
paint scheme sounds wicked. ill be watching also ;)

Thanks for the naptha heads up! Definitely will be giving that a try, I went out to buy some acrylic matte black spray for my base coat but will have to go to a specialist paint store, same thing goes for the matte clearcoat.

Also I am a filthy liar, I meant to take photos of the guitar, paints etc when I got home. I got sidetracked and completely forgot, I'll write myself a note for tonight though!

Well... so much for this so far. After being distracted for a while, travelling overseas, catching the measles and being in an isolation ward in hospital... my funds are fucked. Got a buttload of bills and my apprentice income sucks. HOWEVER! I do still intend on modding this badboy, I've put some though into it and im thinking (down the track of course) a quilted maple veneer could look divine! maybe I will do the paint splashing on my old Ibanez ex series and get that thing happening again
