Even though Reaper is a beginner friendly DAW, as you are on a Mac I totally recommend Logic Pro X, it's way more optimized to work with the OS and actually makes use of all the cores in your CPU for the least latency and best performance possible. It's also very easy to start with it, the MIDI editor is also easier to write compared to Reaper imo.

I totally agree, I don't know why I assumed you were under Windows. I switched from PC to Mac last year for recording and the switch from Reaper to Logic Pro X was a breeze. Logic is super user friendly. You can actually use it right after installation, even if you're new to DAWs. The tooltips will get you going in no time.

Edit: I agree, Midi edition is way better in Logic than in Reaper.
