Hi guys. I hope this subject hasn't been discussed to death already, but here we go anyways:

You know the feeling of getting goosebumps (or goose pimples or goose flesh, whatever.) because of music? The moment that the playing or melody or anything is just so fvckin good, that you get shivers and want to hear that again. This is the place to post them up for others to see. It can be anything, be it guitar, singing, piano, accordion, bass, pan flute or whatever. I would like to have a bit of description (the exact moment on a song, what instrument and so on.) with sound/youtube clips.

I'll start!

The first one is Steve Morse's soloing in the song called "sometimes I feel like screaming". It's just so freaking good and he is a god amongst men  when it comes to guitar playing. Incredible tapped harmonies and he's even better live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8x8lk0EG11A

Second one is by none other than Devin Townsend, it's a little song called "deep peace". Incredible ambience on that song. Everything just works so wonderfully together and that solo may be one of the best solos that's ever written. And god damn he pulls it off every time when playing live. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq-S9FzmcyI

darn, how do I embed the videos? Mods, could you do it?

A ton of stuff gives me goosebumps but 99% of the time it's due to the composition and not the playing. By far the most goosebumps inducing solo of all time is Donny McCaslin's tenor solo on Maria Schneider's "Bulea, Solea, y Rumba," which goes from 5:10 to 11:00 or so if you can find the track (it's not on youtube). It's like one gigantic crescendo with the full force of a big band and an extended percussion section and vocals behind it, it starts out relatively calm but eventually turns into a huge storm that sounds like Debussy's "La Mer" or something and the soloing is absolutely insane.

A very close second is the same player's solo on Hang Gliding, which is easily one of my favorite songs of all time and has the most beautiful chordal stuff I've ever heard in jazz:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdIW_AoTi_4#t=502

It's like a 4 minute crescendo, by the 11:20 mark it's REALLY starting to cause goosebumps and by 11:45 it's almost too much to handle. 11:54 especially.

I've heard them play it live (back in 2012) and it was the most jawdropping thing I've ever heard, it was like a 4 minute orgasm, this is the only live recording I can find of it with the right sax player on it and it's from 2005 unfortunately. Since he's a jazz guy it's never the same every time. The studio recording unfortunately has their previous sax player on it who's nowhere near Donny McCaslin.

The only rock music I can think of where solos gave me goosebumps are a few Pain of Salvation songs on their first few albums where the song was built around the solo in such a way that it feels like a climax. Second Love, Water, This Heart of Mine, Used, Idioglossia, King of Loss, and Beyond the Pale in particular stand out in my mind. It's hard to say if it's cause of the soloing or cause of the composition, though.

Second Love:

Beyond the Pale (5:58 is where it really gives me the goosebumps):

Idioglossia:

Cynic has a few on Traced in Air that come close, they're just so clean and neat and fit so well with the compositions. The couple short ones in "King of Those Who Know" in particular.

The first time I heard Seventh Wonder's Mercy Falls in it's entirety, especially after the (first) guitar solo in Unbreakable, but it's really the whole album.

Slice The Cake's Kow Otani's Castle In The Sky starts to become awesome around the middle of the song, usually get some shivers at the end.

Also, the main themes in Laputa and Mononoke Hime.

Dream Theater's A Change of Seasons. That whole acoustic passage that begins at the 6:55 mark, all the way into the climax of that section right at 9:27 where the lyrics go "... preparing for her flight..." and then when he goes "... she looked me in the eye. I said I love you... goodbye" then the pause, and then the badass super intense little riff begins. Aaaggghhh I get chills just typing it out. One of my favorite moments in music.

A quick embedding note for everyone: you'll notice that all of your failed-to-embed YT URLs start with "https://". The auto-embedding feature only works for YT URLs that start with "http://". If you have a YT account and you're logged in, you're going to get the https addresses by default. Simply edit the URL after you've pasted it into the SS.org reply window, but BEFORE you post, and you should be good. (The site doesn't re-check your post for embedding opportunities if you edit after posting.)
