I'd go to a local guitar store and see what they've got used. its always cheaper and they're more inclined to let you jam on it longer. and you don't have to feel weird about being soft on the pedalboard, because it aint new.

If you're using it mainly in a band type situation, then a (used) Pod HD500 would probably work quite well. If you're using it for recording/practising with headphones, then a Digitech GSP1101 would be a decent option because of the ability to load custom cabs.

You could get a used 1101 around $250 or so and any midi footswitch to change patches. When I first got mine I got an ART X-11 for $30. There are other great cheap preamp options however. I picked up an ART DST-4 for $50 and that thing ruled with a tube screamer in front of it. I never really cracked its full potential till I was demoing to a guy that bought it with my 9005 power amp. Serious sellers remorse, had good built in fx too. Could also get a Chameleon for cheap too.

+1 - I have an ART X-12 that I picked up for what amounts to beer money.

GSP or Chameleon for sure. :hbang: Don't let the "its old so its .... technology" trap you, i still rock my Chameleon from time to time and it's STILL an amp killer :shred:

Didn't Keith Merrow record his first album with Pod HD500?

I like the G5 for the foot pedal, its actually useful so is the tube boost.
Not everyone likes them , but they work great for me.

I agree ^^ that a pod X3 is a better investment then HD300

My whole band aside from me (2 other guitarists) use X3 Live's in front of their rigs. As for the 3 new items you listed to choose from, no. Just no. You'll be disappointed in comparison to anything we've all listed.

If those are the only options available to you, the G5 might be the best one mainly because you can put up to 5 effects in any order. With the HD300, it may have slightly better amp sims but Line 6 has all but dropped support for it and you can't re-arrange the effects like you can on the HD500.

So yeah, if you can only get one of the three you listed, go for the Zoom G3.

If you don't mind rackmount, check out the elevenrack too. You can find it used for between $300-350, and it is capable of some good tones.
