In the 30 years i have been playing i have never owned a used guitar. No real reason other than nothing that has caught my fancy that i was willing to pay for

since 1987 i have only purchased 4 electric guitars (I still have 3 of them sold my 7620)

Prior to this i had about several ESP strats (Wish i still had 1 left...)

1998 RG 7620 BK (bought brand new, 5-98, paid 1000+) I still have it, Donnie's putting his finishing touches on it.

1998 UV777BK (bought brand new, 99 for 1400+) I sold it to by an S 7.

1999 Fender Strat Mexican Made (a gift from my father for my 24th b-day in 2000, paid 300+ new from Musician's Friend). I still own this guitar.

2000 S 7420 BP (bought brand new in 2003 for 1000). I still own this guitar.

1991 UV7PWH (bought used from Rich at Ibanez Rules in 2005, 1400+) I still have this guitar.

1999 RG 7620 GN (bought used off ebay for 349 in 2005). I sold this guitar to Bill Lailer.

2006 Schecter C-1 Elite (bought brand new in 2006 for 600+) Sold this guitar last February.

1991 UV7BK (bought used from Rich at Ibanez Rules for 975+ in 2006) I still have this guitar.

2005 RG 350 MDXBK (bought slightly used for 300 at Music Maniac here in town a few months ago) I sold this guitar just 2 weeks ago, thanks Alex!

Almost all of my gear is used, and almost all of that came from Ebay.

My Jackson was technically new, but I got a few hundred knocked off the price tag because it was stolen from the store and later recovered after having sustained some damage that turned out to be only superficial.

My no-name Gibson style V was assembled from parts I got on Ebay. It just needs pickups to be finished, but somehow I've neglected to get any for months now.

My acoustic and my B.C. Rich are the only guitars I've really gotten new.

Most of mine I have gotten from Ebay. Thats where I find unique stuff that I like and cant find in stores. Plus most stores dont carry highend gear. Alot of times I find used guitars to be much easier and responsive because they are "broken" in. an added Mojo if you will.

I'd like to say that I prefer new, seeing as I got my Washburn WG587, Wechter Pathmaker, and Ibanez S7420 (now with baritone neck) from Music123, Musicians Friend, and American Musical respectively, but the Steinberger GM1A was already 9 years old when I got it in 1995 from a local store clerk who had no idea what it was really worth, and I love it. I had dreamed of that guitar since its introduction in 1986 - I still have the brochure. To this day I still can't believe I got it for $395. Ed Roman was selling them for 10 times that amount, and ebay was and still is no better for original pre-Gibson models.

So I have 4 used guitar and one new guitar.
I prefer used guitars for some reason. I suppose they're cheaper and feel like they've got more character because it's usually a bargain you've found and you haven't just gone in to a shop and seen it be taken out of a box next to 10 more of the same guitar.
