Hey guys and gals! My name is Chris and I work for Carvin Guitars in San Diego. Many of you may already know me as ChrisH on the Carvin forums or knew me as the store manager for the Hollywood store on Sunset Blvd while it was still open.

I'm no stranger to SSO having been a lurker for many years. We do pay attention to everyone's feedback on here so rest assured, we are listening (reading) to your suggestions. I just created a profile on here to better interact with everyone and help answer any and all questions that you may have.

A little about myself, I've been playing guitar for a good portion of my life. I'm a collector, specializing in Carvins (go figure) especially vintage Carvins. I'm a big fan of instrumental guitar music so if you have any suggestions please let me know! I've been working with Carvin for a while and had a relationship with the company long before I was an employee. If you have any questions on vintage Carvin gear I'm a walking encyclopedia. I'm originally from Los Angeles but moved down to San Diego to work for corporate.

I'm here to help people out with questions on all things Carvin so feel free to send me an email, PM me or ask me in a thread. If you do ask a question in a thread I ask that you please send me a PM in case I'm not on to see it.

In any case, I'm glad to be on here, thanks for having me and let me know if you need help!

Good to have you on here! I lurk on carvinbbs every night to see what's new. I'm planning on going down to Mecca this summer to maybe pick up another guitar, or just check out the newest models. If you guys haven't told us what the other new model is by then I'm kidnapping Flock and holding him for ransom!

Hi Chris! I for one think it makes a huge difference when employees of the various companies participate in the forums, and it significantly influences my purchasing decisions. I am a lot more likely to buy from a company that interacts with its customer base on a personal level, so I think it's awesome that you are here. Please consider hitting up a few of the other major forums as well (TheGearPage and RigTalk come to mind).

What's your current role at Carvin?

^ He's the CFFO - chief fanned fret officer. He's the guy who is in charge of making Jeff give us a fanned fret 8 string. Ain't that right, Chris?

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! We appreciate all the feedback from our customers and especially ones from this forum. A lot of design/function considerations for our extended range lines come from user feedback from here and other social media platforms.

Hollowway, if you stop by this summer shoot me a PM first so I can come down and welcome you. And I think Flock is one of those characters where after you kidnap him you'll be begging us to take him back haha.

I am considering joining some of the other forums but it all comes down to time constraints and workload. I lurk those forums from time to time but my interests lie mostly on this forum and the Carvin BBS (the guitar porn is strong on these forums).

Currently I'm designated to both phone and showroom sales among other things. If you guys need help with your purchases whether they be in store or over the phone just let me know.

While I can't promise anything, I'm always shooting ideas to Jeff about options and things we can do with/on/for our guitars. My tastes in guitars line up with you guys here on the boutique/custom side of things so I'm always bringing up those types of options. Now whether it will be something the company will pursue? ;P

And as for any inquiries on "currently non-existent" models:

Hah, the official stance is that the 27" scale needed for 8 strings would make the guitar too neck heavy and unbalanced. If you notice our DC800 and DC7X design has slightly different horns than our DC700/7X7 guitars. When we were doing the prototype for the new SCB7 we originally toyed with the idea of making it an extended scale but decided against it when we did the balance testing with a 27" scale neck. It's a problem with single cut designs going beyond the 25.5" scale, the upper curve and lower horn would have to come out more and without making the body size larger it looks awkward and bulky. You could have a much heavier body wood and very light neck wood but that would greatly decrease the amount of options that would be available wood wise and the balance would still be awkward.

Unofficially though, just cuz we can't/won't do it now doesn't mean we won't ever do it or consider it but at this point it is highly unlikely.

I'm glad that instrument companies actually take their time to join these kind of sites and see what the potential customers want/need/expect of their instruments.

I have a request: Cheaper guitars for Europe plsss :D
