if you're buying online, check out www.rondomusic.com their bass section has some nice (I presume, never tried one, but they get decent reviews here and there), and rediculously cheap basses. also, they have some great customer support, just throw them an email and kurt will answer directly any questions you might have. (he posts here as well

+1 for Rondo Music and their SX range of basses.
Quite a few players in the UK are buying them from the USA and having them shipped across the pond. Owners then seem to enjoy 'pimping out' the SX's with new pickups, new pickguards and so on.
