How Inept The Canadian Government Is

So yesterday I'm coming home from work an I check the mail an I see a large envelope from the Family Responsibility Office, these people are in charge of enforcing payment of child support and everything involved. That didn't surprise me too much as I have a daughter from another relationship which I have full custody of, I figured maybe they tracked down the mother an got her to start paying support. WRONG

The letter stated that I owe child support to some woman half way across the country (Nova Scotia) and that my only option is to immediately start paying support or face 1) having my wages garnished 2) having my drivers license revoked 3) Jail time

Of course in a sweating, near tears, hyperventilating panic I call the case worker and lose my god damn mind. After 20 minutes, and almost losing my voice from screaming at this brain dead $15 an hour phone jockey who doesnt give a shit an doesn't believe a word coming out of my mouth the only thing I gained out of that conversation was in 2008 some chick in Nova Scotia went to the courts looking for her "baby daddy so she can get hers, ya herd ?" and the courts in there infinite wisdom found a list of people named Mathew Cheverie, and sent me a request to appear in court. I never received that letter. Because I did not respond to any correspondence some brain dead retard decided that was good enough to place a court order against me to pay support. Fast forward 3 years FRO tracks me down an sends me the paper work to start paying.

It took the Canadian government and several 3rd party agencies 3 or more years to track down 1 Mathew Cheverie that doesn't even live in the same province as the baby momma. I spent 10 goddamn minutes on google and 5 minutes on facebook to track down 1) The *afro-canadian* Mother with her very *afro-canadian* daughter 2) The very *afro-canadian* Mathew Cheverie with pictures of him an his 3 or 4 or 5 year old daughter.

So now because my government is a giant FAIL full of halfwits an retards, I am faced with spending $1000's of extremely hard earned money on blood sucking lazy lawyers that are damned sure to take there sweet time doing anything about this and to top it off I have to start paying support.

Oh and yes I contacted the father via facebook and his response to me was " There is nothing "I" can do about this, hopefully you don't have the same middle name as me either haha"

I so badly wished this guy lived in the same province as me, I can be pretty persuasive when backed into a corner.

While your situation definitely sucks REALLY hard, I feel compelled to note that social workers sucked just as hard under the Liberal government for years. Trust me, my family fostered a few children over the years and had to deal with the constant stupidity of their social workers.

Also, the Federal Government doesn't select judges in Canada. They're selected by the Governer General at the federal level and by the Lieutenant Governor at the provincial level.

Also, the Federal Government doesn't select judges in Canada. They're selected by the Governer General at the federal level and by the Lieutenant Governor at the provincial level.

Governor and Lieutenant generals are figures heads that do what they're told by the government in power.

When was the last time a Governor General used their veto power? Who even knows that Canada is technically a constitutional monarchy. Probably a lot of people but I'd reckon just as many don't!

My advice to you would be to contact your local MP. Believe me, MP's have a LOT of power to get things done. Another option is to find out if your province or municipality has a society or some sort of service offering free legal counsel. In fact, a quick Google search came up with exactly that:

Request a DNA sample. Have them do it to prove their assumptions. I'm a lawyer but not specialised in familial laws (and I'm from Quebec anyway, these changes from province to province). I strongly suggest you to contact legal aid of some sort.

But anyway, I highly doubt they can do anything without proof of some sort.

Sorry if I can't help you much, but I specialise in wills and real estate, and I'm freshly out of school so I do not have a lot of experience.

I was one of 2 guys actually interested in being in a relationship with her. I'm not about sticking my meat in anything that moves......she on the other hand was deceptive in that regard. She ended up being with the other guy.......and 9 month's later.........

I moved away after and see the whole situation as being pretty sad. Especially because when we all found out who the dad was (not the other guy either) we all knew he wasn't going to a fucking thing for her or the baby.......and still hasn't ten years later.

And if I had of knocked her up I would have been happy to tell everyone it was mine and take care of it........just like I do with the 2 children I have now.

Yeah. One time my dad got sent a letter telling him to mow the lawn by the homeowners association of one of our rental houses about an hour away, that a lawyer had written or something. Anyway, he never got this letter, or the first one they sent without using a lawyer. What he DID recieve was the 100$ bill they racked up by using a lawyer in the first place. The lawn must've REALLY needed mowing...

and that's how America's legal system works.

My dad fought it though, and got out of it because really, a lawyer just for mowing the grass?
