Well my last thread of tube test wasn't a very accurate portrayal of the tubes I tested. This time I have everything squared down. The amp I'm using is a Baron Custom Amps K88 Custom and the DI tracks I'm using are from the Guitar Tracks from Guitar Tone Competition 3 by JeffTD.

Here's the tubes I'm using.

The amp's settings were all set to noon. Even the master so it was loud as fuck in here. :hbang:

Alright, I'm going to organize this as best I can.

I recorded using 1 guitar from the DIs and two guitars form the DIs.

Here's the set of tracks with the single guitar.

JJ KT66

Now here's the set of tracks with dual guitars.

Some of the last few clips don't start till 5 seconds in. Sorry about that.

Any how, I how this is more helpful and if you guys want WAV clips for an even more accurate representation let me know.

All I can say, and I haven't listened to anything yet, is thanks a ton for doing this.

EDIT: After listening to them, I'm going to say I still dig the EL34s, especially JJ. I'm not bashing on the others the EL34s are just more my thing in this amp as it seems.

No KT77's or 6L6s :(

but thanks a lot for doing this! Master at noon is key IMO.

I listened to the KT66 vs rube EL34 clips and they sound exactly the same?

Updated files. I think they were the same haha. I got it straightened out. They are definitely two different tubes now.

Well, I voted for KT88s in the other thread, with this recording I like the JJ E34L better.

Thanks again for the work done there.

No no no no no no no :noplease:

Don't you see, certain preamp tubes favor certain power tubes and naturally sound better with those power tubes. Also, the clips you recorded last will sound significantly worse than those recorded first, the muscle fatigue from playing will have made you pick however infantessimally lighter, lighter nontheless on the strings than the first clips. And, and the clips with the 5 seconds of silence have let the power tubes cook for 5 seconds longer than the others, degrading their performance by an entire 5 seconds from their potential lifespan. Were you using the same guitar for all the recordings? No, no, no, no because as wood ages it matures and again time works against you, the clips recorded later are with and entirely different specimen of wood, it's dried more, the grains are now denser, this whole test is redundant, I say, redundant!

Hopefully that'll shut anyone else up who tries to rain on this parade :fawk: Thanks a ton man, this is freaking awesome! I've saved the tracks and will give them a thorough listen when I get home to my good headphones before I cast my votes, I don't trust laptop speakers  they rob teh Br00TZ frum teh tonez

I have definitely gotten an ear for the Baron from the myriad of other clips you've posted, it has a pretty unique flavor and push to it, sounds a lot different than most of the other rigs people run on here :) I have to side with budda, I think KT77s are sick, 6L6s can be great, I'd just like to see some 6550 and =C= clips, seeing as they're left out of your ring around the tonesie circle here, cmon now, let all the kids play!

Bravo and thank you again kind sir :salute:

I liked the JJ KT88 the best followed by the EL34 (which I couldn't tell as both file names were exactly the same so I only listened to one. I was surprised how different the brands can be as the EHX KT88 sounded a bit more mid scooped and scratchy than the JJ.

EL34Ls were real nice and tight, I enjoyed those and the JJ KT88 most. KT88s sound great, but they are a bit too round for my taste in ideal distortion, but for cleans I don't think anything can beat them :yesway:

Out of curiosity, what preamp cocktail are you running in the Baron?

Bravo! All those were all knobs at noon?? I don't think I've ever heard those settings sound that good all around.

I liked the EHX KT88s best personally.

I liked the KT66's best. But that's probably due to the fact that that's what's in my amp. I'd like to see a combination of KT66's and KT88's. 66's sound positively MASSIVE in person and have a bit of the EL34 high mid spike. They also compress quite a bit when pushed hard and distort. I think they'd be a nice blend with the headroom of the 88's more Hi-Fi sound.

Edit: Why no Gold Lions? IMHO they stomp the JJ's.
