Ok, i found a Peavey 5150 II head for sale. And i'm curious about how much its worth so i can try to negotiate with the guy. He is wanting $1000 for the head plus a 5150 4x12 cab, or $800 for just the head. That seems a bit expensive for the head alone. Can anyone give me an opinion?

Depends on how old it is. I bought my 6505+ brand new for 1200 and haven't even had it a year. Once I get my AxeFX Ultra I'm selling it for 800.

I bought the 6505+ in april and sold last month. I like the amp but the JVM is much better fit for me. I only got $650 for mine so I broke even.

$550 to $700 seems to be the range I see the used 5150's go for. I bought my 5150 for $600 and it was mint but without a footswitch. $800 is too high IMO....I wouldn't pay more than $700 for one and it better be mint as fuck.

Agreed, anything in that range seems to have just a little wear and tear on the tolex and such

Really....I bought my sig series 5150 on CL for $600 and I saw a 5150 II that looked like it was in pretty good shape on there a few weeks ago for $500. I almost picked it up to flip it but in the end just didn't dick with it. Don't know around Tennessee way but up here in the DFW/Metroplex that's the range they are selling for. Whenever they are over $700 they just sit there without selling until the price lowers. I watch them constantly.

You guys are bastards :)

In Denmark 5150's cost 1000-1300 dollars used because of our expensive gear :(
A brand new 6505 costs around 2000.

yeah i've seen plenty of them around Nashville and that area. Thats just too far of a drive for me. I'm in Alabama so yeah. I'm probably gonna try to talk the guy down to 600-700. It's really not in good enough condition to pay more than 650

I just picked a 6505 up for $700 with a footswitch, power conditioner, and 6 space amp/rackcase. It's 6 months old. You shouldn't pay more than that for just the head.

is it actually 5150 half or is it a 6505 half?

The 5150/6505 cabs are atrocious. You should get the head and find another cabinet.

but sound wise, you kinda got me there

the 5150 i got was $550, one of the block lettered heads, no footswitch, and outfitted with Mesa 6L6s

since it's pretty much a 200W or 400W V30 loaded cab, I'm a little confused..

You sir got a fucking DEAL. I'd say that's an unusual case of someone with a new coke habit or something...

But yeah, 800 is too much. Offer 700 if it's dead mint.

It's not a terrible price, but I'd probably offer $800 for both the head and cab. I don't find 5150 cabs to be that bad, sure they aren't the best around but a friend of mine has an old beat up one that actually sounds pretty decent.

I wouldn't pay $1000 unless the head and cab are both in PERFECT condition and still have at least 10 years of life left in them. Head alone, maybe $600.
