I've had some Ibanez in the past, an RG7321, S621, RGA420Z and the RG7321 seemed to get paint chips a lot easier than the other two. Do modern Prestige and Genesis guitars get paint chips super easily? I'm not a gigging guitarist, just a bedroom player and I like to keep my guitars in nice shape so I'm curious if the Genesis RG550 I'm eyeing would get chips super easily like the RG7321 did or if the paint might be a little more durable. Any input would be appreciated!

Ibanez finishes have always been brittle. As far as I know, their clear clay that they use is a little harder than other companies. It’s great for making a mirror smooth shine, but thusly chips really easily.

I have only ever had finish issues on my non Japan Ibanez, all my current stock are Japanese and I don't think they show damage any easier than my other guitars. Though like someone mentioned, the paint does feel thinner. I think as long as your not too hard on your guitars it shouldn't be an issue.
