The ad says it's a 7621. I kind of believe it, but at the same time I'm wondering...

Ibanez RG7621 7 String Guitar Japan RARE Silver RG 7621 Heavy Metal | eBay

I don't think I've seen the 7621 in this color. But I HAVE seen the 7421XL in this color. But the pickup tabs say 7621. Also, looking at the serial number it says this thing is MIJ and produced in 96.

However, Ibanez Wiki says the 7621 wasn't released until 98 and the 7421XL wasn't released until 00.

What is this thing?

Im sure someone who posts here more regularly than me will chime in, but I swear I remember hearing before that the 762x were released early in small batches before going full blown production in 98. What I do find odd is that the early production ones were all serial numbered from 97, so this being 96 is really a head scratcher.

That's what I thought too. I have a few 7620s with necks that have '97 serial numbers. Are they released a year early like cars?

Everything about this looks legit other than the serial, but I do suppose its possible this is just a really rare early production.

Yeah I've seen plenty of RG762X serial numbers in the 97s, but 96 is definitely odd. But, probably just a RG7621 in a cool finish.

That BIN price looks a little high considering the condition. Overall, though, it looks cool. I would love a silver Ibby hardtail. However, if I were going to bid on it, I would email Rich over at IbanezRules first. I'm positive he would know all about that kind of stuff.

I never saw any RG762x before 1997, but I would consider it likely legit, because everything else looks like an RG7621 except the finish and the date of manufacture from the serial number.

Can't fidn anything shabby with the pictures, the fact that they are clear and detailed is adding some weight to the claims of the seller. Worst case scenario you get a 762x neck and a third party body. If you can get it to 400 it will likely be a good deal.

I've seen serials as much as four years prior to US/EU release. I wouldn't worry about it.
