Hi , just curious , do I have to do any mods in guitar body if I want to install EMGs in guitar with pickups normally mounted in rings?

Uh... are the pickups in the mounting rings EMGs of some sort?

Because if not, then O HELL YEAH you have to make some modifications. The EMG 7-strings pickups are direct mounted (right to the body) and they are NON-STANDARD size. So, get the ol' router handy...

EMG 7's are basically six string bass pickups - you've got some routing to do. Nothing SUPER major, but you;'ve got your work cut out for you.

Maybe look into a high-output passive? Lundgren and Bareknuckle both make passives that sound much like an EMG and are similar in output, but with a passive's dynamics (i.e - not uber-compressed)

Must I correct you again? Of course I should. :fawk:

For 7-string guitars, EMG 7s are housed in a DC35 5-string bass housing.
For 8 & 9-string guitars, they use a DC45 6-string bass housing.

Now I have some stock ESP/LTD pickups mounted in rings.

Man , I`d love to install Lundgrens (Meshuggah \m/ :) ) but I come from Poland , and it`s impossible to buy those pickups here, don`t you know if they can ship worldwide ?

And what other more popular pickups (Dimarzio, SD) would you suggest?

Lundgrens are made in Sweden (or somewhere around that area)so you won't have a problem getting them. They aren't cheap though!

Well corrected about the EMG's Shannon. :yesway: :)

Woah, necropost.

But to answer the question, you'd have to route the pickup cavities then screw it in. Highly suggest you get it professionally done, and might cost a bit. Around 50 or 60? iirc for the routing
