Hey,

I want to buy some instructional books/dvd/videos. Anyone got any good suggestions of ones to get, and links to 'em?

Get John Petrucci's "Rock Discipline." Definitely one of the best Instructional DVDs if you want to take your technique higher.

+1 on Rock Dicipline.

Also, Troy Stetina's "Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar" is near-mythical for a good reason - not so much on theory or musicality, per se, but if you want the best physiological analysis of the mechanical process involved in playing guitar, and ways to minimize resistance to build speed and finger independance, this is it.

Amazon.com can do ya for both. ;)

Another +1 on 'Rock Discipline'!

In terms of books, I'd recommend one called 'The Complete Guitarist' by Richard Chapman. This book covers absolutely everything. I've had my copy for about 7 years, and I still refer to it every so often.
Any of Paul Gilbert's videos are great for general technique as well.

What's a good resource for developing your melodic sensabilities, though...? There's plenty of technique resources we can recommend, but...

Hmm.

This calls for a new thread.

Guthrie Govan's 'Creative Guitar' books are fantastic as well, and between the two volumes, cover pretty much everything.

Thanks guys!

Im now thinking about ordering:
Speed Mechanics
Rock Discipline
George Lynch's Reh vid OR Intense rock I

I may order them in the next couple of days. A few of questions though...
1. Which is better out of George Lynch's Reh vid and Intense rock I ??
2. I know this may sound stupid but can anyone get me a link to intense rock on licklibrary??
3. What is a good vid for sweep picking??

Personally, I've found Paul Gilbert's vid to be FAR better than George Lynch's.

Frank Gambale is definitely an authority on sweep picking - check out his first vid - Monster Licks & Speed Picking
