Is this damage to the neck?

Hello

I found a deal of 500$ for Ibanez RGIR27FE.

However I have noticed this marking on the fretboard, does it mean that the wood is rotting ? Should I go for it?

1. That is not the fretboard, the picture you linked is of the back of the neck.

2. Request some close up photos of the discoloration so you can better judge what's going on.

looks like it was played by someone who had the hands of a mechanic. looks like its caused from dirtiness not wood figuring imo but what do I know

At first glance it looks like a mix of the finish wearing off and dirt buildup. Need closeups.

Either way, even well-kept Iron Labels tend to go very cheap so I wouldn't consider $500 a "deal" for one that has had a rough life.

Talk the price down because of it ans just refinish the neck with Tru Oil and Gunstock Wax if the clear is damaged.
